Notes & Transcripts
News, broken families, selfishness, greedy. We live in a world where there are people that really want to do damage to you for their benefit. That are willing to lie, cheat, threaten .....
What is our reaction? How do we respond to the nastiness around us? Do we take up arms? The weeds are doing damage to us, causing distraction, don’t they deserve to be ripped out of the ground. And more important than that… can I please do the ripping? How do we respond, worry, anger, frustration — that all makes sense. Or do we just let it happen....
Matthew 13:24–30 NIV
Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’ “ ‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. “The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ “ ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’ ”
Matthew 13:24-30
Matthew 13:36–43 NIV
Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.

What do seeds do?
Planted in a specific spot to produce a crop that pleases the one who planted it.
What do weeds do?
They steal nutrient from the seeds that are supposed to have it
What do they both do? --- grow.
They lay down roots and do everything they know how to do to thrive where they are.
Our job- exist. Trust that the master knew exactly what He was doing when he planted us.
Trust That he knew what he was doing when the weeds sprang up and he let them grow.
Trust that he knows the difference between weeds and seeds.
Bonzai Tree.
I’ve always wanted to own a bonzai tree. When I see pictures, some of them are beautiful. But to get beautiful it takes work. The grower needs to cut off areas that do not please Him. He needs to strengthen areas that need strengthening. He needs to cover and bring health to areas that have become wounded.
You see, we were created to be beautiful. But we are in an environment that is not as beautiful. In fact, the weeds want to choke us out. They want to steal the glorious thing that God has created us to be. In fact sometimes when we look at ourselves in the mirror, we wonder if we are the weeds.
So here is the difficult task I am asking today. Relax. You are beautiful in His eyes. You are the bride of Christ. You are His handiwork and He knows what He is doing. Trust Him and allow Him to get you through this nightmare.
Favorite part of this passage.. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
No more enemy, No more weeds, Nothing left but glory.
