Perpetual Thanksgiving will do miracles in the lives we touch, as well for ourselves.

Notes & Transcripts

1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV 1900
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Introduction: Paul
This exhortation sent by Paul to a group of his fellow Christians, has an unquestionable flavor of the impossible about it.

This exhortation

So much is the case that the vast majority of us never think of taking his great word seriously.
We simply pass by, confessing of course, the reality of the pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow, and is therefore, quite beyond our reach.
But the Apostle was genuinely sincere in the giving of this exhortation.
He believed that it was possible to make everyday a Thanksgiving Day.
This was not just a theory, it was his experience.
If you study his life, you will find him in many trying situations, but never once do you find him without a song of Thanksgiving.
Psalm 69:30 KJV 1900
I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify him with thanksgiving.

In everything give thanks

1 Timothy 4:3–4 ESV
who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
It’s more than good advice.
It’s more than Excellent advice.
It’s a command. “in everything give thanks
So we see then that gratitude is not a matter that is purely optional but to refuse to be thank- full is to refuse to be obedient.

God is calling us to do the impossible “In everything.”

It seems impossible to thank him at all times.
What was impossible for the paralyzed man to rise and walk.
But he was willing. Christ made the impossible possible.
If we give him thanks in everything, even in things of sorrow, tearful and dark times he will turn into laughter, joy, and a brighter morning.
Psalm 30:5 KJV 1900
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
We need to thank him when we have success, prosperity and victory.
2. But, Hell opposes our thanks and our testimony.
3. Thanksgiving is how we open heaven’s gate, but you have to go through the second heaven to get there.
Psalm 100:4 KJV 1900
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Psalm 100:4 ESV
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
Understanding the significance of the gates of heaven being opened with the key of thanksgiving, will gain entrance into God’s favor and grace and a “open heaven” where the blessings of God can flow into your life.

Through OT offerings

Gratitude is never born purely of our circumstances. “In everything give thanks.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Paul was shipwrecked, stoned, hounded, whipped, imprisoned and was eventually killed. But they never killed his gratitude.
but he was never
2. Gratitude is a child of Faith. “Al things work together for good to them that love God.”
3. EX: If faith is the child of gratitude that child must be watched, trained and developed. The child must be fed and given drink or it will die.
“In everything give thanks” Don’t think Paul never struggled with this. But how he did it is he never ignored the commonplace of the daily blessings.
Psalm 68:19 ESV
Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah
There’s a legend about a day the sun didn’t rise.
There’s a legend about a day the sun didn’t rise.
At 6:00 in the morning it was dark. At 7:00 it was still night. Noon came and it was like midnight. By 4:00 in the afternoon, people flocked to the churches to beg God for the sun.
The next morning, huge crowds gathered outdoors to face the eastern sky. When the first rays of sunlight pushed open the door of the morning, the people burst into cheers and praised God for the sun.
Thank God for the sunrises and the sunsets, thank God for the Mercies that are new each day.
Appreciate the comforts of Home, family, friends and associates, a church that is welcoming, and a constant place of prayer and a gateway to the Father’s house.
Psalm 103:2 ESV
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
Psalm 103:2 ESV
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
The Psalmist knew he couldn’t possibly remember all of God’s benefits to him.
He was distressed that he might forget them all, so he took his sluggish soul in hand, shook it, and urged it to consider at least some of the good gifts God gave to him.

To be Thankful in everything, you must cultivate the habit of giving expression to your thanks.

Paul always gave thank for the saints. I wonder how many starved hearts there are in the world because we fail to express our gratitude.
EX: There was a preacher who visited a certain village and there were 10 sick and hideous men who were dying from a gross disease called leprosy this committee of men asked for help.
Luke 17:16–19 ESV
and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
This man expressed his thanks and Faith.
2. Why does our gratitude please God or expressing it?
First it’s a mark of growth in ourselves.
Gratitude is a test of our character.
EX: No Baby is Grateful. We can’t blame him because he’s a baby an infant.
Shakespeare quoted “you may have the body of a giant but you have a soul of a pigmy”

He Didn’t Do Enough

Two men were talking about a mutual friend. One was very critical. The other said, “I am surprised to hear you say that. It was my impression that he had done many nice things for you.” Replied the other, “Yes, but he has not done anything lately.”

Gratitude will make you helpful and begets Gratitude in others . People work better when we know we are appreciated.
we say lovely things about people when there dead. but we keep them secret while they are alive.

Your expression of Gratitude will create a miracle in somebody’s life.

John 11:38–44 ESV
38 Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
jn 11:38
Take away the stone.
your miracle is holed up.
The miracle is for the dead.
Will there be a record in heaven of our miracle risen from the dead through a testimony of thanksgiving?
