Introduction
Introduction
We are going to continue working through
We are going to be looking at Jesus’ attendance at a Festival called the Festivals of Booths or also known as Festivals Tabernacles
Between September and Octover
Required attendance by all Jewish adult males within 15 miles of Jerusalem
It was after the grape, fruit, and olive harvests
Jewish Historian Josephus wrote of the Festivals of Booths, he said, it was “the holiest and the greatest estival among the Jews.”
Let’s check it out
Leviticus 23:33-35
Leviticus 23:39-43
Leviticu
So this is the festival that Jesus was about to attend in
Stand if you are able as we read
John 7
John 7:
Let’s Pray
I recognize that these are a lot of verses that we are going to work through today.
So I want to do something a little different today and just look at five of these verses.
I want you to think about who Jesus is?
Who do you think Jesus is?
More importantly who do you say Jesus is?
This was the discussion that takes place in
Let’s look at verse 12 -
Jesus is a Good Man.
We would all agree with this
Jesus was a good man
He took care of people
He wan’t violent
He wasn’t a complainer
He didn’t kill anyone
Maybe He was a good man.
Jesus leads people astray.
He breaks the Sabbath by healing people on the Sabbath
He hangs out with drunkards and gluttons, that could lead people astray
He hangs out with “those sinners”
Maybe Jesus leads people astray
John 7:20
Jesus is demon possessed.
Jesus is crazy!
Who is trying to kill you!
All these Jewish men in town for the festival and they hear Jesus speaking and they hear him say that they are trying to kill him.
Some believed that Jesus was crazy and demon possessed simply because of how he spoke.
Maybe Jesus is crazy and demon possessed
John 7:26
John
Jesus is a man of courage!
Many of you do not enjoy speaking publically.
If you were asked to come and speak to the congregation it brings chills to you just thinking about speaking out loud.
Maybe Jesus just is courageous
John 7:40
John
Jesus is a prophet
Jesus proclaims the Word of God
He is a teacher
Certainly he is a prophet they said!
Jesus is charismatic
Never has a man spoken like Jesus
Maybe he is just an elegant speaker
Maybe he is just a great orator and can argue with Jewish leaders
These are all things that the crowd was saying about Jesus
He is a good man
He leads people astray
He is crazy and demon possessed
He a man of courage
He is charismatic
He is a prophet
Or maybe He is the savior of the world.
Conclusion
John 7:37-39
The offer from Jesus still stands today - its better in fact because we have the Holy Spirit!
If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink...
He who believes in Jesus, will have the Holy Spirit!
