What Peter Saw

We are all product of our environment . tonight as we continue to go through Peter’s life we get a chance to sit by and evaluate what he saw.
Illustration - OBBC I was apart of a vibrant fundamental church that had lots of children and young people.
I saw a pastor that loved his flock
I saw a church where people were saved
I saw a church that put an emphasis on Christian growth.
Peter at this time was an observer of jesus and his ministry.
We learn from those we watch.
Dads ,mothers, bosses, co-workers etc.....
When we deal with someone that comes from a sinful dysfunctional home we must understand what they have seen ...

I He Saw a Dad - Mark 5:21-23

Mark 5:21–23 KJV 1900
And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea. And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
What did Peter see? He saw a dad pleading for his daughters’ life.
He went to jesus the one that could help.
A very powerful statement was made by ruler! He was a ruler of the synagogue of all things.
Into the life of Jairus had come a great sorrow: his little girl was desperately ill. The other Gospels tell us she was twelve years old (; )[1]
A Fathers love – this man went out of his way for his daughter.
He publicly confronted Jesus and was willing to lay down his preconceived ideas he had about Christ.
When our children hurt we hurt:
A father hurts when his child hurts …..
How do we express a fathers love ?
Peter saw an example of a fathers love.
illustration - of fathers showing love for their children.
No example today for many they are purely winging it.
Titus 2:1–2 KJV 1900
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
Who is watching you ?
A dad influence

II He saw a Delay

Mark 5:24–35 KJV 1900
And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
Mark 5:24-
Peter learned something that day by watching the Lord.
The desperate father request was delayed.
It was not necessarily Jesus getting side tracked - it was part of God’s plan to allow the girl to die so there would be no question on who would get the glory for the healing ‘
Delays happen
the wrong responses to delay
Dictionary of Bible Themes 4926 delay, human

Examples of human responses to delay

Sarah’s wrong response brought trouble Ge 16:1-6

Saul’s wrong response cost him the kingship 1Sa 13:11-12 See also 1Sa 13:8-10,13-14

Jacob responded with patience Ge 29:20-30

Paul responded by giving instructions to Timothy 1Ti 3:14-15

David reponded by calling on the LORD Ps 13:1; 40:17; 141:1

Illustration of delays -
Isaiah 55:8–9 KJV 1900
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are my ways higher than your ways, And my thoughts than your thoughts.
isaiah 55.
A man, toolbox in hand, rang the doorbell. “Good morning, ma’am, I’m the plumber. I’ve come to fix the pipe.”
“But I didn’t call a plumber.”
“You didn’t? Aren’t you Mrs. Foster?”
“No, she moved away a year ago.”
“How do you like that? They call for a plumber, claiming it’s an emergency, and then they move away!”
Sometimes it seems as if God responds to our emergencies like that plumber responded to that call. We’re in a crisis and we cry out, “Help, God!” Silence. “God, I need You right now!” No answer. “God? Are You there?” Nothing.
Psalm 69:1–3 KJV 1900
Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.
Delays are a part of God’s plan

III He Saw a Disturbance

Mark 5:36–40 KJV 1900
As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
what a mess ----
The crying, the noise resulting of death of the young girl.
Death disturbs the normality of life.
Peter is witnessing all this noise.
Trauma -
A select few were to witness the miracle and peter was one of them.
He also saw there doubt and mocking when Jesus said she was only asleep
Peter - sees the wailing, he seeing the mocking.
Peter - seesing wailing
He also sees the miracle.
When things get as bad as they can be we need to remember that Christ is on the scene.
Christ brings a calm to disturbance.
Illustration - walking in house just notified son had been killed.
No Christian response; bitter and angry ........
peter first handed witnessed what the presence of Christ can do in the midst of a disturbance.
How do you react to a disturbance ?
Everything is falling apart?
Blame game
Gossip
Negativity
or
Wait on the Lord
Be calm and Know that I am God!

IV He Saw the Damsel

Mark 5:41–43 KJV 1900
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
mark
He saw miracle ...
This was not he first but it was the first of witnessing someone rise from the dead.
Did he sit back and think - oh my - the son of God...
he gave her something to eat as thought this was a normal happening
