Introduction
PLEDGE

22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.
23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

TITLE: The Basket List

Segway
2 Law defying miracles took place!
Close to 10,000 people fed with 5 loaves and 2 fish (13-21)
This defy’s the law of Reason!
I don’t care how great your grandmother cooks she is not able to feed close to 10,000 people with just 5 loaves and 2 fish.
BUT JESUS DID!
He took what man had to offer and Blessed them.
He didn’t just bless them (Through this miracle) with a piece of bread and a cut off portion of the fish........
They ate until they were full!
Bread and Fish -meal of the poor
Shelly’s family made HOMEMADE pizza (Friday nights) They were rich!
My family … Chef “Boy r Dee”
Not only did Jesus feed them but he gave them LEFTOVERS. (12 baskets full)
People in this day and time did not waste anything.
Shelly’s family made HOMEMADE pizza (Friday nights) They were rich!
So it was not uncommon to collect the leftover stuff.
My family … Chef “Boy r Dee”
Not only did he blessed them with a meal but with Leftovers as well. This was the residual of the blessing.

Definition of Residual: remains that are left after the majority of something has been removed

The 2nd Law Defying miracle is what we read about today ....
Walking on Water
This defy’s the law of Gravity!
Let’s look at this law defying miracle
Body
Jesus sends everyone away ...
Commands the Disciples to get into the boat and go to the other side
Dismisses the crowd
And he gets alone with the Father.
Young parents - If Jesus needed, could get some alone time with the Father You need and can as well.
What appears to have happen is Jesus lost track of time (just being funny)
Scripture tells us that a storm developed.
It was between 3-6 am in the morning when Jesus comes to the disciples by walking on the sea.
We are told the Disciples “cried out in fear.”
This would have freaked me out.
Jesus knew this so he tells them, “Do not be afraid, its me.”
Peter then makes a request, “If it’s you, command me to come to you on the water.
Some people have given Peter a hard time but to be honest I get what Peter was doing.
He was saying that if this is my LORD and SAVIOR who has performed all the powerful and wonderful miracles I have witnessed first hand .....
He would not let harm come to me. He would not call me out into something that would cause me to loose my life.
This would verify in Peters heart that this was His Lord and Savior.
Peter understood the power and the Love of Jesus.
No matter how dangerous the storm may have been, Peter’s Jesus was way more soothing being on the water than in the boat.
So, I have decided to lay off Peter, I get him.
I think too many times we want Jesus to calm the storm and we might miss the fact that Jesus wants us to come to HIM in the storm.
But what takes place next, though, causes Peter to sink.
He takes his eyes off Jesus and fixes them on the storm.
He cries out to Jesus, “Save me.”
As always, Jesus saves Him.
But Jesus says something to Peter that was very interesting.
He says, “why did you doubt?”
The word doubt is only used twice in scripture. (Distazo : διστάζω)
Here (31) and in And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.
Climax
This word is a figurative word taken from a person standing where two ways meet and not knowing which to choose.
Jesus was saying to Peter why were you choosing fear over me.
PAUSE
And then scripture tells us, “they (both) got into the boat and the wind ceased.”
The residual of this miracle was the wind ceasing.
Peter was not fearful of the storm but of sinking.
The disciples were not crying out for fear of the storm, it was of fear of a ghost.
The residual of this miracles of Jesus walking on the water was the storm had stopped.
PAUSE
Climax:
There is something that connects the 2 miracles.
So, we have the miracle of the Feeding of close to 10,000 people and the miracle of Jesus walking on water.
There is something that connects the 2 miracles.
There is something that connects these 2 miracles.
Look back at Verse 20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over.
The 12 baskets of food left over from the feeding of the 5000 plus.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
The 12 baskets of food left over from the feeding of the 5000 plus.
What happen to these 12 baskets?
The Residual of the Blessing
What happen to these 12 baskets?
THEY ARE IN THE BOAT!
Why is this so significant?
The very leftovers (residual) from the previous miracle was right before their eyes.
Instead of being reminded of the Blessings of Christ by looking and seeing the Baskets they had their eyes fixed on their FEARS.
They forgot what Christ had just did a few hours ago.
They looked away from the residual of the blessing.
Peter is not the only one who took his eyes of Christ.
They all did!
They looked away from the blessing that Christ had did for them (just hours before) and instead fi

Conclusion
How does this apply to us today?
How many of you have heard of this thing call a “Bucket List?”
What if we had something called a “Basket List.”
We write down all the blessings and the residual of blessings and keep them in this basket.
And when we are faced with the fears of life, we look toward the basket and pull out one of those blessings to remind us of What the Lord has done.
What this basket will do is to help ......
Remind us that nothing is to big for our God
Remind us that His love is way more powerful.
Hopefully, we then fix our eyes on Jesus and not on our fears.
Here is what I want us to do this morning .....
Get out your phone (Notes or reminder), note pad, piece of paper (just for today)
And I want you to write down a blessing or 2 (JUST to GET YOU STARTED)
And then .....
I want you to think of a situation in your life (Storm, fear, whatever it may be) and I want you to bring it to the Lord this morning and look at your Basket List to remind you of how much the Lord loves you.
