In the old days the sheep was always closley look after by the shepherd unlike modern times.
His Sheep experience a great faithfulness
He calls His sheep - hearing and knowing the sound of his voice, the sheep would follow their Shepherd. Distinctly and directly calling them.
He conducts His sheep - His role is to conduct his sheep to safety and where there is enough pasture so that they all could be satisfied and have enough rest. It depends upon the Shepherd to know the seasons and know where to take them accordingly. Know the secure paths to trod, know where the wild beasts would be.

He corrects His sheep - Correct the sheep that begin to approach poisounous weeds or cliffs. The Shepherd would tenderly lead his sheep. The sheep would experience His great careful attention on them.
Faith lesson for us - leading and dealing - What does it mean to us? Do we hear the sound of His voice each day calling us to separate ourselves from this world in which we live and the world which attempts to squeeze us into its mold. To come to Him and follow Him. This is the way… walk ye herein. Do we look at how the Shepherd Himself and lived and walked so that we may know how to live and walk.

Business at work, life, church life become a badge or medal of honour.

Are we afraid of silence?
Are we afraid to be quiet and be still, to evaluate ourselves. To reflect that He is God and not us. Is it go go go the whole time, chaos and confusion? There is a time within our family where we just rest together.
Silence is an act of faith - saying Lord you’re in control. Sheep being satisfied and enjoying quiet restfulness.
While we may not hear from Him, He does hear us. His desire for us as His sheep ()

Are we experiencing our Shepherd’s faithfulness in these things? Do we hear His voice, feel His rod, at times uncomfortable but at times essential.

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

Are we abandoning the shepherd?
That we might think, talk, tarry with, be taught by Him and that He alone can quiet our troubled soul. He can still our trembling heart, break the bread of life to us. That He alone can remove the fear of the future. Only in His presence is fulness of joy. That takes time just like it does to eat, drink, meditate. Stillness, quietness of heart comes from being satisfied by what the Shepherd supplies, provides and a feeding of what the Shepherd furnishes.
Satisfaction results from enjoying the Lord’s abundant supply. Sometimes the Shepherd has to go to great severe lengths to get us to be still and silent but it is part of His care for us.
Business is not blessedness. Christian life is not just being active but also being still and learning from God. If we don’t rest a while, we will literally come apart.
Taking time out, QT, plan, pleasure and purpose of our Shepherd to lie down, to cause us, to enjoy all tha He is and all that He would be to us. The result is our enjoyment of Him is for our benefit.
His sheep evidence a blessed contentedness
The reality of contentment
to evidence before a watching world a blessed contentment.
To make a sheep lie down:
freedom from fear
freedom from friction - no rivalry or competition
freedom from flies - drive them to distraction
freedom from faminy - hungry sheep will not lie down.
Only knowing our Shepherd - His protection and provision for us - helps the sheep to lie down.

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

The reason for contentment
All sufficiency of Christ who provides all that He needs in his current situation.

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

The road to contentment
Spoke and reasoned to themselves - conditions are always changing. I’m not going to depend on them. God cares for me. He tells me that even the very hairs on my head are numbered so why am I worried? God is great. Nothing happens to me apart from the will of the heavenly Father. What matters most in my life?
Intimacy with Christ is so supreme, we must be absolutely dependent on him. It’s not wasted time or lost time but it’s an investment of time. Our pleasure and satisfaction is in Christ and always in Christ.
To have communion with Him and He is to us a source of all our pleasures. He will lead us to be still and that we may enjoy Him and thus glorify Him forever. Intimacy with our Shepherd is more vital than any activity.
