Hope in the Ministry

Intro:

I am a Braves fan
· We are always good enough to not win anything
· Make it to the playoffs and lose
· Every season is another chance and often, another disappointment
2. It’s disappointing because no one likes losing!
· Show me a good loser and I will show you a loser – Vince Lombardi
· We don’t like to be on the losing side
3. Often, Christians act as though they are on the losing side
· Maybe you have these Facebook friends – Congress did this and the president did that and this group is doing this
· And they think the world is ending and we have all lost
· We are not losers but we have already won in Jesus Christ
4. It doesn’t matter what happens because we already have the victory
· It’s easy to get into a mindset of defeat - many missionaries struggle with this (China is hard, it’s communist and illegal)
RYAN
· But many times even in churches, we think the same thing: Let’s raise the white flag and surrender. We will just hold on till Jesus comes
5. Tonight, I want to give you two reasons why we have hope

We have hope because we preach Jesus

A. First we see what we don't preach: ourselves

1. We have nothing that can save anyone

a) I know I can't save China, America, Crystal, Evie, Maddox, myself

b) I needed Jesus

2. Without Jesus, we have nothing

a) If Jesus did not die on the cross then our faith is in vain
b) We have no reason to meet
c) No reason to sing
d) No reason to go
e) We are yet in our sins and offer nothing of any true eternal value

B. But we do know that he came to this earth

1. He came and lived a perfect life

2. He died on the cross not for anything he had done but for my sins

C. When he died it was not just for my sins but for all men's sins

1. When he said, "it is finished" he meant it

2. He was the propitiation not just for my sins but the sins of the world

3. He died as much for me as he did anyone else

D. So you can find someone here and tell them Christ loved them while they were sinners and died for them

1. And you can come to China and tell them there and it is just as true

We have hope because we know God can save

A. Imagine this: there was nothing
1. In this nothing, God made everything
2. That is power we can't understand because we cannot do it
B. That power to make light shine out of darkness is the same power to make the gospel shine in the hearts of men
1. It doesn't matter how blind, delusional, hard hearted someone may be, God can save them
2. We do look at people and think God can't save them
a) They are too religious
b) Too worldly
c) I've talked to them and they want nothing
d) Like Ryan, too smart, an atheist, doesn't want it
C. We lose hope especially when it is those we care about but God can save them
1. It says we know this in the verse
2. If God can save me then he save anyone!
a) I was just as lost
b) Just as in need of a Savior
c) Yet God saved me so he can save anyone
d) I am no more deserving
D. I know God can save not just because of me but I have seen him do it
1. Ryan tried to get away but God kept dealing with his heart
2. He finally came to a place where he said it did not matter what it cost, he wanted to be a Christian
3. And now he is looking to lose everything
Conclusion
Is there someone lost you know that you have given up hope on?
Someone you care about and think they are too far gone - maybe you don't even know if they are alive
Have you lost hope? Don't! God can save them - if he can save you then he can save them
If there's one thing you can do, you can pray
They might not listen to you anymore but they can't get anyway from God
If there is one great example, it is memaw
Who can you pray for?
Christ died for all men and God can save any man
