Breakthrough Blessing

Foundation Scripture:  Numbers 6:22-27

I.       Only God’s covenant people enjoyed the divine blessing

II.      Good news:  God is still a blessing God!

          A.      God is love

          B.      Love always desires to bless the object of its affection

III.    God blessed His creation in Genesis including man (Genesis 1:28)

A.      Blessing is necessary for fruitfulness, multiplication, and dominion

IV.     God blessed Noah and his sons to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 9:1)

V.      God blessed Abraham and told him that he would be a blessing (Genesis 12:1-3)

A.      We bless others out of the abundance of God’s blessing to us

VI.     God wants to bless us in all that we do (Deuteronomy 15:18)

VII.   The blessing of God cannot be overcome by our enemies

          A.      Psalm 109:28  “They may curse, but you will bless.”

          B.      Numbers 23:7-8, 18-20, 23  Balaam’s prophecy

VIII.  The blessing of God is not automatic

A.      Revelation 3:16 The church at Laodicea was not blessed by God

IX.     Six Secrets of Blessing

          A.      Ask, seek, and knock

1.       1 Chronicles 4:10  Jabez (“pain”) cried to the Lord to bless him

2.       Genesis 32:26 Jacob would not let the angel go until he blessed him

3.       Psalm 24:3-6 Who receives the blessing? ---Those who seek His face.

4.       Matthew 7:7-11 Ask, seek, and knock includes desperation in prayer (Crying out, wrestling with God)

          B.      Reading God’s word

1.       Revelation 1:3 “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it.”

2.       Pray for God to give you a fresh grace to read His word

          C.      Obedience through faith

1.       Psalm 5:12 “For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with Your favor as with a shield.”

2.       Genesis 26:3 (God told Isaac) “Stay in the land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you.”

3.       Haggai 2:19 (after obeying God to rebuild the temple) “From this day on I will bless you.” (The day of obedience became the day of blessing!)

          D.      Giving

1.       Acts 20:35 Paul taught, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

2.       Malachi 3:10 Giving opens up the windows of heaven for blessing

          E.      Words of our mouth (prophetic declarations)

                   1.       Isaac blessed Jacob

                   2.       Jacob blessed his sons

                   3.       Moses blessed the tribes of Israel

4.       James 3 The tongue is to be used to bless and not to curse

5.       Numbers 6:22-27 When you bless, I will bless

          F.      Covenant Communion (1 Corinthians 10:16) The Cup of Blessing
