Today we take a few moments to focus on the core of our faith
There are many things that we believe as Christian doctrine
Scripture is inspired
God created the world
God heals and speaks to us
That Jesus is coming back
But all of these are secondary to the core belief of Atonement through Christ
Jesus came for 2 reasons
To show us the true nature of God
humans had created a very wrong idea of who God was
They had lost the
We have done that also today
To atone for the sins of humanity
Sermon on the mount
To atone for the sins of humanity
The atonement is the core reason for Christ coming to earth
The angel speaking to Joseph upon the miraculous conception of Christ
Matthew 1:21–23 NLT
And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’ ”
Why did God want to save us from our sins
John 14:23 NLT
Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.
Previously God spoke through individuals, but did not “live with them”
Only once did God choose to “live among his people”
The level of holiness required was extraordinary

Exodus 33:3 NLT
Go up to this land that flows with milk and honey. But I will not travel among you, for you are a stubborn and rebellious people. If I did, I would surely destroy you along the way.”
Exodus 33:3
Temple in Jerusalem
Only once a year did the high priest enter the Holy of Holies (with blood)
2 Chronicles 7:1–3 NLT
When Solomon finished praying, fire flashed down from heaven and burned up the burnt offerings and sacrifices, and the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple. The priests could not enter the Temple of the Lord because the glorious presence of the Lord filled it. When all the people of Israel saw the fire coming down and the glorious presence of the Lord filling the Temple, they fell face down on the ground and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying, “He is good! His faithful love endures forever!”
David and Uzzah- struck dead for just touching the cart!
This God wants to come and live in us.
Because he wants to have a relationship with you and I
Revelation 3:20 NLT
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
He sees you as his child
John 14:23 NLT
Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.
1 John 3:1 NLT
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.
The Father has loved us so much that we are called children of God. And we really are his children.
1 John 3:1
Do we have a committed relationship with God (Josh Hoffert)
How many times do you speak to your wife or husband throughout the workday?
Why do you do that?
Because you have a relationship with them…commitment to them
Because you care about them and are interested in them a
Our level of commitment and relationship with God can be measured by how much we communicate with him
Josh Hoffert
