Introduction

Working on the window with Ron.
“We do need improvement in attendance to spiritual exercises. Increase in prayer-life and application of Bible teaching will make the Hockinson church a power for God in this community and beyond.” -Pastor LeLaCheur

Mourning v 4

“…as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not
Setting the stage for prayer.
Hurting for the real hurts, recognition that life is not as it should be. Houston, fires across the West, Irma (with 2 more behind)…Then we get into the problems caused by our choices. Confusion, racial tension, deep idealogical divides, broken families, communities, lives. A world living without hope, without the gospel.
Nehemiah, like us had a choice of what to do with his grief...

Worship v 5

Nehemiah 1:5 ESV
And I said, “O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name...”
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name...”
An acknowledgement of who God is and what he deserves

Confession v 6-7

Nehemiah 1:6–7 ESV
let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Even I and my father’s house have sinned. We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules that you commanded your servant Moses.
“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”
Confession is actually owning that you aren’t right and have no excuses.

Faith v 8-10

Nehemiah 1:8–10 ESV
Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.’ They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.
Believing God will do what he has promised.
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him...”

Petition v 11

Nehemiah 1:11 ESV
O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” Now I was cupbearer to the king.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Calling on the Lord to do his will in this earth.
