Amos 3:3 NLT
Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?
Everything God instituted requires agreement from us
There is nothing God can do for us without us agreeing first
(try to put a snowsuit on a child who does not want it on)
Purpose of the Church
God will not join with us without our agreement/invitation
Blessing & finances
If we chose not to agree with what God said his plans are for us
We are called to
We will not fulfill those plans.
Purpose of the Church
How he sees us
How to handle finances
Sexuality
We need to be in agreement with God on these issues and others
Exodus 24:3 NLT
Then Moses went down to the people and repeated all the instructions and regulations the Lord had given him. All the people answered with one voice, “We will do everything the Lord has commanded.”
The first area we need agreement on is how God sees us.
How does God see us?
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
eter 2:9 NLT
God’s favor, love and grace is on us.
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
.... May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.
Matthew 3:17 NLT
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
....26 I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”
Why can God see us and love us this way?
Colossians 2:9–10 NLT
For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
Colossians 2:9–10 NLT
For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
Backstage Pass ( He is with me) (united with Christ)
1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT
God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.
“Freed us from sin”
From the consequence of sin- eternal seperation from God
and
Gives us the power and process to defeat sin in our life ( we will look at this in a moment)
Romans 4:5 NLT
But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.
Romans 4:23–24 NLT
And when God counted him as righteous, it wasn’t just for Abraham’s benefit. It was recorded for our benefit, too, assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
We are counted as righteous
The Handbook to Bible Study Righteousness/Righteous

The standing before God in which the believer is viewed by God as meeting all His standards concerning holiness

Until we truly agree with God that this is how God sees us…we are limited in what WE think God can do through us
Because we will base God’s approval on how good we have or have not been
If we had a good week
God is happy and his favor is upon us and we can expect God’s favor
(remember God’s favor was on Job)
If we had a bad week
God is not happy, therefore his favor is not on us and we have to wait until…? (when)
The bad week is what we need to struggle with while on earth
How do we walk with our sinful humanity?
We need to look at sin as an addiction
The best addiction program is the 12 step program from AA
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Learn more about Step 4.
What is most important about this process is what people say when they get up to speak
