Introduction -
What makes you feel at home?
What about you house make you feel settled, comfortable and happy when you return from a long trip?
The long straight road from Columbia SC to Denmark SC
Main Idea “The word as we furnish our minds with it, will cause us to teach, and sing praises thankfully to God”
Main points
All of this is under the heading - “Put On”
Let the Word of Christ Dwell in you
“Word of Christ” - Only place this phrase is used
Gospel of Christ
Does not create a new or more important word, but places emphasis on Christ as the focal point of the word of God.
Dwell
Allow it to move in......
Allow it to become part of feeling like home - the opening of the scriptures should be like the long drive from Columbia
C Simeon - Look at the most distinguished saints, and see how they regarded the inspired records. Job esteemed the words of God’s mouth more than his necessary food: Jeremiah found them the “joy and rejoicing of his heartn:” and to David they were “sweeter than honey and the honey-comb.” Let not us then think that we have any title to be classed with those holy men, if we do not resemble them in this particular

M King - It is to be an integral and permanent living force in us, and not merely an outward performance
Integral means it is a significant part of our life that we seek to grow
Permanent means we are willing to shackle ourselves to it, and bank our lives on it.
It is to be an integral and permanent living force in us, and not merely an outward performance
The other place in scripture where we see dwell speak to how God or the holy Spirit dwells with his people
The temple and tabernacle had a cloud come and fill the place
I have an interest in architecture, and especially modern architecture - House in Churchville - empty
“A message living in ones heart”
Richly - abundantly
In excess
Overwhelmingly
In luxury of abundance
The pampering of the soul
The ways we do this in the body:
“In all Wisdom”
With tact and understanding
“He wields the scriptures as a drunk at a lamppost - for support, not illumination”
Not for our own gain or renown - we do it in Christ
Teaching and admonishing
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ
The most excellent of all sciences is the science of Christ crucified, and the Bible is the textbook for all who would learn it. Spurdeon
The
Teaching and admonishing - Furnishing our minds, and regulating our conduct

Teaching has the idea of learning the truth
Teaching and admonishing - Furnishing our minds, and regulating our conduct
would learn it. Spurdeon
Admonishing has the idea of bringing the truth to bear upon our lives
“Singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs”
The indwelling word brings about praise
With thankfulness
The indwelling word brings about thankfulness
Do Everything in the name of Christ
Word - We study and learn in the name of Christ - as in that the ss class studied, Peter stood up and declared Christ, not Peter
Deed - Any good we do is Christ working in us
again “Giving Thanks”
Take Home
Does the word dwell in you? is it homey, Is it comfortable?
Is it like that old lazboy you can’t throw out because it is perfect for you?
Have you spent enough energy placing it in your dwelling place?
Is it the furniture of your mind?
We need to get to work on this - if this is not your reality, you are living in an empty house because everything else you place there is cheap decaying furniture.
Does it regulate your conduct? Is the word so embedded in your life that it automatically regulates your actions.
“On these the wrath of God is Coming” - do a study on the wrath of God, and every time you are drawn to sin repeat this to yourself.
Is it so embedded in your heart that it spontaneously erupts in singing and praise?
Or is singing a drudgery - something that makes me get out of my seat?
Does it create an overwhelming aura of thankfulness
If you find yourself focused on the negative or possible wron is it possible that you have not allowed the good grace of God to take residence in =your heart and produce thankfulness?
