Matthew 17:1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. >> Here Jesus is transfigured and they recognize in His company Moses and Elijah. Many think of the transfiguration as a peak experience in the lives of James, Peter, and John. Actually the Mount of Transfiguration was the biggest flop for them that we could possibly imagine. We today look back and imagine that after this incredible experience that the disciples would be ready to go out and tell the world the Messiah has come. They had seen the Lord transfigured, they had heard the testimony of Moses and Elijah. But instead when they came down from the mountain Jesus says in verse 9 “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead.”>> Notes

Luke 9:28 Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white. 30 And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. >> Accomplish, His death was to be an accomplishment. Not a tragedy, not the untimely end of a great teacher, profit. He was no idealist, he did not die the death of a martyr. He was not somebody to progressive and ahead of his time. This was not a gesture for the weak of the world. There was not a curtain waiting to fall on His crusade leaving behind memories for all to nurture of a beautiful Life. One who lived and died, snuffed out in the prime of His life. Jesus, Moses, Elijah, talked about the death that He would accomplish.>>Notes

Luke 9:32 now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, and when they wakened they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. When they woke up saw Jesus, Moses and Elijah. Not until they woke up did they see His glory and the two men who stood with Him. They woke up saw Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. You know its very embarrassing when you wake up suddenly in the middle of something important. Why were they asleep anyway? Because they were bored. After all, if you don’t want the cross, and you don’t believe in the resurrection that Jesus, and Moses and Elijah insist on going on and on about. His death and resurrection and you don’t believe, the best thing you can do is just go to sleep.>> Notes

Luke 9:33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah” What nonsense, why did he say this. Luke tells us -not knowing what he said. What’s the best thing to do if you don’t know what to say. Keep your mouth shut. That exactly why Jesus said Not a Word about what you have seen! Until the son of Man is risen from the Dead.

Matthew 17:5 Peter was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him. Listen To Jesus. Don’t listen to Peter, he has nothing to say worth saying because he has not yet to understand the cross, he has yet to understand the resurrection, he’s got nothing to say worth saying, So listen to Him, Jesus! >> Notes

1 Peter 1:16-21 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17 And if you invoke as Father him who judges each one impartially according to his deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile. 18 You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake. 21 through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him, glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.>> Peter is saying, Because I have prophecy, because I have scripture that now makes sense, and it makes sense because I recognize the writer the Holy Spirit, now Jesus makes sense. I know the way he died, “1:18 you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.”  1:3 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, >> Notes
