Life in the Family at Midway Baptist Church CORE Class | Week Two Ephesians 2:19 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; Introduction:______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Being a member of a local church is a commitment to a body of believers, a body of doctrine, and the body of Christ." Our church exists for the purpose of: Loving God Growing Together Serving Others 1. A Commitment to Loving God Mark 12:30 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. A. Participating in the worship service and responding to God’s Word Hebrews 10:25 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. B. Honoring the Lord with our tithes and offerings 1 Corinthians 16:1–2 1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. C. Walking with God and allowing Him to conform our lives to Christ Joshua 1:8 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Mark 1:35 35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. 2. A Commitment to Growing Together Acts 2:42 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. A. Relating to my fellow members with love and grace B. Participating in opportunities for spiritual growth 1. Adult Bible Fellowship, Sundays at 9:45am 2. One-on-one Discipleship 3. Other conferences and events C. Leading my Family in Studying and Applying the Word of God 3. A Commitment to Serving Others 1 Peter 4:10 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. A. Finding a place to serve somewhere in the church Romans 12:4-8 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. B. Serving and Supporting my Fellow Members Galatians 6:2 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. C. Reaching Out to Others with the Gospel 1. Inviting Friends, Neighbors, Coworkers, and Relatives to Church John 1:40–42a 40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42 And he brought him to Jesus. 2. Regularly Sharing the Gospel Yourself Matthew 28:19–20 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. 3. Supporting the Worldwide Spread of the Gospel Through Missions Acts 1:8 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
