Intro

Have somebody do something for a dollar, then just give a dollar to someone who believes you will give it to them. If you work and get paid it is not a gift but the money is something that you have earned. But if you do not work for it then it is considered a gift.
Can anybody work enough or do enough things to earn justification? No, it must come as a gift through faith.
Think about Abraham, Abraham’s belief in God justified him. Look also at verse 5
The faith of the person who believes in the only one who can justify the ungodly, which is God, will be counted to him as righteous. Through faith alone God will justify you.
What does it mean to be justified? Look at verses 7 & 8
your sins are covered, and the Lord will not count your sins or hold your sin against you.
Faith in Jesus Christ means that God does not punish you because of your sin. Faith in Jesus Christ means that you are a part of God’s family and that receive blessings from him.

Righteous through Faith

What is Faith

If I said that anyone could be my friend if you ran a mile in under a minute then would any of you be my friend? No because that is impossible.
If God required us all to keep all of his commandments in order to be righteous before him would any of us be righteous? No
God has provided another way for people to be righteous before him, and it is through faith in Jesus.
Faith is trusting in God to fulfill him promises
Has God fulfilled his promise in providing a sacrifice for our sin? Yes, God did that through Jesus sinless life, through punishing Jesus for the sins of the world on the cross, through Jesus death, and sealed or confirmed his promise through raising Jesus from the dead. God has fulfilled his promise of providing a way for people to be saved.
Another example that Paul talks about is Abraham. God made Abraham a promise that he would be the father of many nations even though Abraham was 100 years old and had never any children. But Abraham has faith in God. Abraham believed that God would fulfill his promise, and God did. Abraham trusted that God could fulfill his promises.
So what is faith? It is trusting that God fulfills his promises. What does God do with your faith? What does God give to people because of their faith? Righteousness

Justified by Faith

Think about Abraham, Abraham’s believed in God and God granted him righteousness through his faith. Look also at verse 5
The faith of the person who believes in the only one who can justify the ungodly, which is God, will be counted to him as righteous. Through faith alone God will make you righteous.
What does it mean to be righteous? Look at verses 7 & 8
your sins are covered, and the Lord will not count your sins or hold your sin against you.
Faith in Jesus Christ means that God does not punish you because of your sin. Faith in Jesus means that you understand you are incapable of making yourself righteous. Faith in Jesus means that you understand God has given you a gift that you do not deserve and that you did not earn.
What should happen because of faith?
You should obey what God has said.
Your faith should create inside of you this love and desire to serve God. When you think about the cost of your salvation, and you think about how God wasn’t required to provide a way for you to be saved then as a Christian you should want to obey God and thank him with both your actions and your words. You should want to share this good news, this Gospel of Jesus with others.
That is what faith should produce in you.

Response
