We are reminded in this psalm that David only had moments of rescue during his long tenure as a fugitive from Saul. This serves to remind us about the various trials we experience throughout life, there are moments and seasons of deliverance and peace, but those are met with a new trial. Moreover, Psalm 59 reminds us that God chose not to intervene to rescue Jesus from the cross, nor did Jesus cry out for rescue from the cross. Jesus knew what his suffering and death would accomplish. To learn more about what Jesus secured for us through His suffering and death and resurrection, we turn to 1 Peter. Moreover, we learn there to endure sufferings like Jesus, and thereby experience the power of Jesus’ work through our trials.
