Intro

Through Faith ()

Through faith in Jesus Christ we receive peace with God.
Our sin has caused a separation between us and God because God cannot be present where there is unforgiven sin.
We also bring God’s punishment upon ourselves through sin.
Sin has to be punished. God cannot allow sin to go unpunished because then he would not be holy and just.
It is through our faith in Christ, whom God punished, that God shows us grace and makes peace with us. Christ suffered God’s punishment for sin, but it is only those who have faith in Jesus that God makes peace with. Only those who have faith in Christ will be justified.
How is this possible? Only through God’s love.

Through Love ()

Through love God provided Jesus as a solution to our sin problem.
There is no solution to sin apart from the provision of Jesus Christ.
One sin makes you guilty before God. One sin means you are in trouble. One sin means you are hopeless unless God does something for you.
Some people say that God has never done anything for them, but God has in providing Jesus Christ as a way that you could saved from the consequences of your sin.
Is God required to do things for us? No. Was he required to provide Jesus as a way people could be forgiven? No. God is not required to save us because we have broken then law. What he is required to do is punish you. If you steal from someone the police are not required to let you off with a warning; they are required to write you a ticket or arrest you.
Don’t think that just because God is a loving God that everything will be ok in the whether you place your faith in Jesus or not. In the end all will be great, wonderful, cheerful, a great big party but only for those who have placed their faith in Jesus. For all others it is misery, sadness, and torture forever!
God is loving, he want to show you grace, and love, and blessings, but he can only do that if you have a relationship with him. God has shown love to all people already by providing Jesus as a solution to the sin problem, but he wants to show you grace and blessings through faith in Christ.

Through Obedience ()

Through Jesus’ obedience we can be given his righteousness.
Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve all people were made sinners. Through their sin, they brought God’s punishment upon themselves and the entire world. Through their disobedience death entered the world.
But like we just talked about God provided a solution. While Adam disobeyed, Jesus always obeyed.
Jesus never sinned. Jesus didn’t deserve to die at all. Jesus is the only reason God is able to forgive people, able to show people grace, and able to have a relationship with people.
Through Adam and Eve all people became unrighteous, but through faith in Jesus all people can be given his righteousness.

Through Death ()

What does this all mean for us?
Having faith in Jesus means dying to sin so that you may live for God.
We must die so that we may live. That is not a physical death. It means that when we place our faith in Jesus we must consider our sinful habits as dead. Gone. No more.
People have things that control them. Some people have to drink coffee every morning. Some people have to have pop during the day. People who have not placed their faith in Jesus are being controlled by their sin. No matter how hard they try to stop sinning they can never fully stop. They can never put to death sin in their life. Their life is always controlled by sin. Some of you have been there or are there. But Paul is taking about here that when you place your faith in Jesus, that sin that is ruling your life should be dead! You should be free from sin controlling your life! You can now live life for God because Jesus died to free people from sin.
As a Christian you must put to death sin so that you may live for God.
There is a saying that goes you can’t ride two horses at once. You cannot live for God and be controlled by sin. Either you are living for God by obeying him, or you are being controlled by sin and disobeying God. What I want for you who are Christians is to be living for God rather than being controlled by sin. I want to see you having conversations with your friends about being saved. I want to hear about what you learned through reading your Bible at home. I want to see you talking to different at school. I want to see you paying attention at church. I want to see you living for God rather than being controlled by sin because that is what Jesus did!
I want to see you guys each week become more like Jesus. Jesus never sinned, and his whole earthly life was lived in obedience to God. I want to see you all living lives that obey God. And I want to hear other people talk about those kids who go to Trinity Baptist Church. I want to hear them say that those kids know how to bring glory and honor to God.
