Messy
Life can get messy sometimes, am I right?
Ya..
I know… sometimes there are situations in life that just go from bad, to worse… to… well… messy...
And and as much as we try to stay out of the mess… it seems that sometimes we just keep getting dragged in.
We get dragged into the fight at school
Or we find that our friends aren’t as nice as you thought
and For a few weeks that what we’re going to talk about is how life can be “messy” and we’ll also talk about how to get outta the mess.
and really the answer is simple.
”love your neighbor as yourself” … you’ve all heard that saying right?
Where does that saying come from?
Allow for answers:
Would it supprise you if I said that that isn’t originally a saying of Jesus?
In fact it came from the old testiment.
and it’s a great solution to messiness.
Let’s read the Bible together: Leviticus 19:15-18
do you know why we constantly get into messy situations?
well it’s probably because we’re not following Gods rules.
Love your neighbor.... buy how are you supposed to love your neighbor?
As Yourself!
How many of you love yourselves?
Allow for response:
We’ll lets test that...
how any of you would lie about yourselves so that you look bad?
No?
OK… how many of you would hurt yourselves right now, or any time?
no?
how many of you would purposefully embarrass yourself or make yourself look silly or dumb?
No?
Of course not… because you love yourself?
most people wouldn’t do anything to hurt or harm themselves.
because we have an in-built need to protect ourselves because we see ourselves as valuable… we place the highest priority on ourselves(we make our-self the most important thing in our lives)
And this is the way that God wants us to love others!
Have you done these things?
How many of you have even embarrassed someone else?
Allow for responses...
How many of you have ever told a lie that made someone else look bad?
Allow for responces...
How many of you have ever harmed someone else…even just a little?
Is that loving your neighbor like you love yourself?
No!
And that’s why life sometimes gets messy...
If someone were to embarrass you would you probably want to embarrass them back?
Ya? Well that’s messy!
If someone hurt you would you be temped to hurt them back?
Ya? That’s messy too!
If someone lied about you… would you be temped to do the same?
Probably, right?
Well that’s messy too!
and it’s the same when you do these things to others!
Don’t Let Life Get Messy!
see… life gets messy when we don’t do what God asked us to do… right from the old testement times God has been asking us to LOVE others… and not just to do that a little bit.. but to LOVE others like we love OURSELVES
Do you want to know a good test for if you might be doing the right thing to another person?
ask yourself this.
Would I do this to myself.
Let’s pray together
