Introduction
In verses 12-16 we deal with the salvation/deliverance of Paul.
verse 12 we see the person used in the deliverance, Ananias
verse 13 we see the power of Paul’s deliverance when he recieves his sight
verses 14-16 we learn of the plan of Paul’s salvation/deliverance. He himself was baptized and will take the Gospel to the world.

I. Saved

A. The Saved was Sent

Her we deal with the Person...
Ananias was the one saved who was sent.
Ananias was the person just like you and I are to be the people who are sent...
Acts 22:12 ESV
12 “And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there,
It is the saved who are sent to bring the Gospel so that others might be saved...
Romans 10:15 ESV
15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Men therefore can be saved when one of the saved is sent.
When the sent arrive what must happen???

B. How we are Saved

Here we deal with the Power
Paul recounts what happened to him
Verse 13 is the power of God used in our salvation...
Acts 22:13 ESV
13 came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ And at that very hour I received my sight and saw him.
So Paul was blind but now he sees
lost but now found/saved
at enmity with God but now His chosen instrument
he went from royal pain to the church to Royal Priesthood
he went from holier then thou to Holy Nation
he went from zealous opposition to Zeal with knowledge and Zealous Apostle
It is only by the Power of God that Paul has changed
Romans 1:16 ESV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Now armed with the Gospel that first saved him
He is now prepared to go and save others...

C. The Reason to Save

Here we deal with the Plan
Paul is told what to do by the SAVED so that he can be SENT to save even more...
Acts 22:14–16 ESV
14 And he said, ‘The God of our fathers appointed you to know his will, to see the Righteous One and to hear a voice from his mouth; 15 for you will be a witness for him to everyone of what you have seen and heard. 16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’
Notice what Paul is told to do in verse 16
he is told to be BAPTIZED by the saved and this is what he also must tell the lost when he is sent to help save others - BE BAPTIZED!
After being Baptized Paul walks in the newness of life, he is longer the same man who persecuted the Church
Paul will now build up the Church in this new life...
Romans 6:3–4 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Introduction to second half of the lesson, verses 17-21 which deals with Paul being sent, this is his new direction..
in verses 17-18 Paul tells of the vision to leave Jerusalem because of the PAST we’ll call it a “Role Reversal”
In verses 19-20 Paul makes a PLEA to stay because many knew him before his conversion “I am one of them”
In verse 21 Paul speaks to the PLAN again which was to take the Gospel to the Gentiles after first going to the Jews this going will be directed by God in other words, “Go to the Place I Will Show You...

II. Sent

A. Role Reversal

The born again will often experience a reversal in roles
Once Paul was the hunter, he is now the hunted...
Acts 22:17–18 ESV
17 “When I had returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance 18 and saw him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.’
Once redeemed by the blood of the lamb men will have opportunity to reflect on the error of our old way
A way that is contrary to the will of God, even at enmity with Him...
But we can reverse it’s effects sometimes by using them...

B. I am one of them

Paul can use his error to point to the truth
With penitent hearts we might be able to use our wrong to highlight what’s right...
Acts 22:19–20 ESV
19 And I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that in one synagogue after another I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you. 20 And when the blood of Stephen your witness was being shed, I myself was standing by and approving and watching over the garments of those who killed him.’
As one of them Paul yearned for his brethren to come to the knowledge of truth that could save them...
Romans 10:1–2 ESV
1 Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
When you are confronted by the truth that can save you must do what it says
In other words you go or do what God commands

C. Go to a place He will show you

Now Paul’s heart was for his brethren
I’m sure he would have liked to have stayed to help bring them salvation
But God is sending him somewhere else
and he was obedient...
Acts 22:21 ESV
21 And he said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”
When the Lord says Go we must Go
Making us the Saved and the Sent...
Matthew 28:19–20 ESV
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
God showed Noah a way (a place) and he obeyed...
God showed Abraham a place (a way) and he obeyed...
God showed Jacob a way, he obeyed and became Israel...
God showed Joseph a way, and it saved Israel...
God showed a way to the Prophets and those who obeyed were saved and sent...
God showed the Kings a way, often by His Prophets
those who obeyed were saved...
those who disobeyed were lost and destroyed
Then God sent the Way in the Person of Jesus the Christ...
God showed the Apostles a way to be saved, they obeyed and were sent that we might be saved
God continues to show us the way by His Word that we might know how to be saved and what to tell the lost...

God’s Plan of Salvation - What we must do in order to be saved

Hear the Word of God

Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Believe the Word of God

Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Repent of your past ways

Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,

Confess Jesus as God’s Son

1 Timothy 6:12 ESV
12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Be Baptized for the remission of your sins

Acts 22:16 ESV
16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’

Remain Faithful even unto death

Revelation 2:10 ESV
10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
