Last week we got a good look at our enemy
This week we look at how he operates
Scripture tells us that we are not fighting people, but principalities
Ephesians 6:12 NLT
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
The New American Commentary: Daniel (3) The Interpreting Angel’s Explanation (10:10–14)

There is an invisible, spiritual warfare being waged that involves angels and believers.

What does this look like
Daniel 10:12–13
12 Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.
13 But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.
Daniel was praying for “Understanding”
The devil wants to stop all spiritual progress, growth or understanding
The warfare began when? (ask congregation)
When Daniel started to pray!
The devil is not effected by a saint who does not pray
Angels are activated by our prayers
DANIEL prayer resulted in spiritual warfare- what type of prayer was it?
Was he thundering against the enemy?
Calling down fire on his enemies?
The bible’s greatest example of spiritual warfare was instigated by this:
Daniel 9:20 NLT
I went on praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people, pleading with the Lord my God for Jerusalem, his holy mountain.
The most powerful prayer to activate the power of God is:
Humility, reverence and supplication for others.
The most powerful prayer we can pray will:
acknowledge our need and God’s willingness to meet it
acknowledge our weakness and God’s power
There are specific spiritual entities over specific countries
Micheal guards Israel
Daniel 12:1 NLT
“At that time Michael, the archangel who stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued.
A demonic spirit was influencing Persia
Daniel 10:13 NLT
But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.
Persia ruled the world then
satan would want to have influence there
What would Spiritual influence look like?
Joshua 5:13–15 NLT
When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, “Are you friend or foe?” “Neither one,” he replied. “I am the commander of the Lord’s army.” At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. “I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?” The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.
The battle is fought through us....
Joshua was given directions on how to fight from the Lord
Made no sense in the natural
We are called to fight with God’s wisdom- not our own
This is what spiritual warfare is
Determining to act in a way that goes against what our thinking would suggest
We are called to love - where others would hate
We are called to give - when others would would not
We are called to speak faith - when life is saying its over
We are called to persevere - when all strength seems gone
We are called to hope - when all hope seems lost
There is a spiritual force that is trying to stop you from doing these things
What does this look like?
Eve- The devil convinced her that what she believed to be true was not
Jesus - The temptation in the desert, tried to get Jesus to compromise his convictions
“If you are the son of God” (said twice)
God said to Jesus immediately after this temptation
Matthew 3:17 NLT
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
John The baptist
Was put in prison for doing speaking against sin
Lost his faith in prison
Was discouraged because what he preached about the coming messiah seemed not to happen
Luke 7:19 NLT
and he sent them to the Lord to ask him, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”
Who was in that cell with John The Baptist (the enemy speaking lies)
Jesus said something interesting
Luke 7:21–23 NLT
At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind. Then he told John’s disciples, “Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” And he added, “God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.”
John had a preconceived idea of what the messiah would be and do

John is not to let the absence of certain works blind him to the glorious presence of the works that are now in full progress. Let him be satisfied with these and trust that in due time the others will follow just as these are now being done.

Satan was lying to John The Baptist to try and get him to let go of everything he believed about Jesus
Satan tried to deceive Jesus in the desert
And in the Garden....
VIDEO CLIP
Luke 22:44 NLT
He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.
Hebrews 5:7–8 NLT
While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.
