Let me pray and we’ll get started.
The Mission of the Church
Connection to the Series—Explanation of what we’re doing this morning.
Let me remind you of our mission statement this morning.
“ We live to Know God and Make Him Known.”
Now it’s important to note that the Church has ONE mission.
It’s the same mission that Jesus gave his disciples immediately before his ascension into Heaven—to make disciples of ALL nations, baptizing and teaching them to live in obedience to Jesus.
This is what we see in the passage of Scripture known as “The Great Commission”.
Last week, we were looking at what it means for us to do this GLOBALLY—because as Jesus reminds us, the Good News is NOT just for a specific group of people, but for ALL NATIONS.
Think about it for a moment.
How on earth did a few Jewish followers of Jesus take a message from a fairly unimportant corner of the world, Israel, and in the course of 2000 years.
Friends, that has PROFOUND implications.
If the Good News is for everyone, for all nations, that means we have a responsibility to tell the WHOLE WORLD about the good news.
Jesus is not one path among many that leads to salvation—he is THE WAY.
But this week we’re looking at what it means for us to be LOCAL followers of Jesus.
