First stanza of the hymn teaches us about who He is that is the object of our thanks

Vs. 16 continues teaching us about Jesus
He is the creator of all things
“through Him and for Him”
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Pointing back to Jesus as first born, Paul reminds that Jesus is in tht firstborn position
Jesus holds all things together
Paul is hinting at the truth of the Divinity of Christ here
18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

Jesus has, through his own work, reconciled all things to himself.
What is this all things?
Does this teach universalism?
Does this teach that even Satan and his demons will be reconciled?
No
I think the best way to understand this is that all things will exist as intended.
That this is not Just talking about people and angels but about the whole of creation and that God is, through Christ, destroying the curse of sin from His creation.

Apply: He did not have to choose to save us. He did not need us but as we sang this morning, we need Him. You owe him everything.
What does Paul say that we should give back?
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
“reasonable service” (KJV)
Live your life for Him
Make all your decisions for Him.
Your life is a sacrifice for Him.

21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,
22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
