WHAT IS MANKIND?

WHAT IS MANKIND?

1) Human beings are created in God’s image

Genesis 1:27 ESV
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

NOTE: Mankind shares in God’s communicable attributes

2) Human beings are souls with a body

Ecclesiastes 12:6–7 NLT
Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don’t wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well. For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

NOTE: Mankind has a spirit, soul, and body mysteriously intertwined

3) Human beings are highly valued by God

Matthew 10:29–31 NLT
What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

NOTE: The entire universe was created for mankind

4) Human beings are protected by God

Genesis 9:6 ESV
“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.

NOTE: All stages of life are sacred to God

5) Human beings are accountable to God

Hebrews 9:27 ESV
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,

NOTE: Mankind is accountable to what has been revealed

6) Human beings are intended to multiply

Genesis 1:28 ESV
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

NOTE: Marriage and multiplication is temporary

7) Human beings are created to create

Genesis 2:15 NIV
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 NIV
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

NOTE: God’s gift to you is your potential. Your gift to God is what you do with it
