Matthew 2:1–6 HCSB
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived unexpectedly in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Messiah would be born. “In Bethlehem of Judea,” they told him, “because this is what was written by the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah: because out of you will come a leader who will shepherd My people Israel.

We Have Great Potential

Bethlehem was not a well known city, but the Old Testament Prophet, Micah, saw that it had great potential. He spoke of the Messiah coming from there 750 years before it came to pass.
It was the home town to Boaz, Jesse, and David. Just a little village, even in the days of Jesus.
But it was the place of our Savior’s Birth.
Little things often hold great potential.

Follow Our Dreams?

People often misapply Phil 4.13
Philippians 4:13 HCSB
I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.
This doesn’t mean you can do anything YOU SET YOUR MIND TO, it means you are able to do what lies in your path. Paul says he has done with plenty and he has made it with nearly nothing.
Proverbs 19:21 HCSB
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the Lord’s decree will prevail.
Colossians 3:2 HCSB
Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.

Potential Takes Time

it was 750 years before Micah’s prophecy was brought about.
By perseverance the snail entered the ark.
Noah spent over 100 years building the ark.
Proverbs 20:24 HCSB
A man’s steps are determined by the Lord, so how can anyone understand his own way?
I think many of us get frustrated about the Lord’s timetable too easily.
We give up too soon. We want to be godly. We want to be close and clean. We want to be used by God.

Seek God’s Purpose!

Matthew 6:33 HCSB
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
The realization of Bethlehem’s potential was not found by working it up and making it happen!
It was God’s plan in God’s time.
God’s plan for your life is just that GOD’s.
He’s not interested in making your plans succeed.
He’s set on you deciding to spend your life seeking His will for your life.
YOU HAVE GREAT POTENTIAL as you seek God’s plan for your life.
