Summing up the sum thus far

We have been looking at the sum of all things and that is Jesus and we have seen.
He is the way to a better life
He is the way to forgiveness of sins
He is the way to God
He is the way out of religious confusion a
He is more than about Christmas
May we remember
James 1:17 NASB95
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
The good and perfect gift from above from the Father is the Son and today we are going to look at how Jesus is the way to eternal life.
Titus 1:2 NASB95
2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago,
Our eternal life, our eternal hope is a future hope and a present reality.
John 17:3 NASB95
3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
But can’t stop there
1 John 5:13 NASB95
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Jesus wants us to know eternal life, John wants us to know eternal life, just one more
1 John 5:20 NASB95
20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
And Jesus came to give us eternal life and we will expand on that today.

The Why Jesus is the Way

When we were kids we probably asked “why” a lot I know I did, and it is OK to ask why when it comes to Jesus too. If we know why, then we can inquire about how and we can come to a place of belief.
One of the first ways He is the way is that He prepared the Way
John 14:3 NASB95
3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
Jn14:
and He is the way (expand on this: His way is via the cross)
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Prepared the way to the place prepared by the Father
John 14:1–2 NASB95
1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
Jn14:
One day He is going to return, the day and the hour we do not know but we do know the promise
1 Thessalonians 4:15–16 NASB95
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NASB95
17 pray without ceasing;
1 Thessalonians 4:17 NASB95
17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Our eternal life starts here; but we have our future hope for the eternal home in heaven.
We cannot neglect the why Jesus is the way because if you don’t chose Him there are consequences.
Matthew 25:31–32 NASB95
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 “All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;
Matthew 25:33–34 NASB95
33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
The why, is God is just and judgment is coming, the separation of sheep and goats is going to happen and from there
Mt25:31
Matthew 25:31 NASB95
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.
Matthew 25:41 NASB95
41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
It’s a sobering thought and a reality and it is everlasting
Matthew 25:46 NASB95
46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Eternal fire, eternal punishment but eternal life for the righteous.
Jesus is the way to eternal life and that was via the cross, and Jesus is the judge too. for God is just and given judgment to the Son and the Son will judge by the Word
2 Corinthians 5:10 NASB95
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
John 12:48 NASB95
48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.
So vital, so important, so eternal that we be found acceptable in His sight
Jesus is the way to life, to eternal life and eternal life is in Him look at this.
Revelation 21:1–2 NASB95
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:3–4 NASB95
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
eternal life in Him in which there is no tears, no more death, no more mourning, crying or pain.
Couple this with
Revelation 21:22–23 NASB95
22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
The Lord almighty, the Father and the Lamb (Jesus) are the temple, and Esus is the lamp for those who have eternal life in Him.
He provides life, eternal life and the water of life
Revelation 22:1–2 NASB95
1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Revelation 22:3–4 NASB95
3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
Revelation 22:5 NASB95
5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
Jesus: The way to eternal life is described in these passages as
The bridgebroom
The temple
The lamp (or light)
The source of the water of life
Wonderful words of life that bring eternal life, Does it, the promise, the way excite you like it did Paul
2 Corinthians 5:8 NASB95
8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
In the midst of a fallen world, in the throws of persecutions and pressures he was of good courage
Philippians 1:23 NASB95
23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;
Jesus speaks, teaches about eternal life

II. Jesus words on Eternal Life

A prepared place by a prepared way that leads to the way
Matthew 7:14 NASB95
14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
The way is available to all, and God’s will is that all would come, Peters inspired words say such.
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
You cannot fake your way, or talk you way in. The story in Mt22 (Parable of the marriage feast) states such - it did not end well for the wedding guest who was not properly prepared
Matthew 22:11–12 NASB95
11 “But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, 12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.
Mt22:
Matthew 22:13–14 NASB95
13 “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The parable of the 10 virgins (Mt25:1-13) points out the same thing, we need to be prepared , how do we prepare you may ask? - By doing the fathers will.
Matthew 7:21–22 NASB95
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
Mt7:21-
Matthew 7:21 NASB95
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
we need to be diligent in knowing what we have in Eternal life which is in Jesus so we do not stumble
2 Peter 1:10–11 NASB95
10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
For the alternative is not good, in fact it is hell
Matthew 25:41 NASB95
41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
Mt25:
Matthew 25:46 NASB95
46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
That terrible place prepared for the devil, the beast, the false prophets and the fallen angels and people who are not in the Lambs book of Life. - you can read more on that in Rev20:10ff but to carry on with a definition of those who are not in the book
Revelation 21:8 NASB95
8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
So be sure to enter by the Way Jesus prepared (the cross) to the Fathers house in which He prepared by the narrow gate. Don’t be lead off into destruction. those who do not obey the gospel the scripture addresses
2 Thessalonians 1:7–8 NASB95
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
2 Thessalonians 1:9 NASB95
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
We have looked at the Why Jesus is the way, we have looked at the What Jesus has to say about the way, now how about the how, we need to know the how.

III. How Jesus is the way to Eternal Life

How is Jesus the way to eternal life
For life is in Him
John 1:4 NASB95
4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.
He is eternal life to those who believe
John 3:15–16 NASB95
15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
To the one who believes and obeys
John 3:36 NASB95
36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
He provides for those
John 4:14 NASB95
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
Remeber it was the Father who sent the Son
John 5:21 NASB95
21 “For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.
He is life to the one who hear
John 5:25–26 NASB95
25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 “For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;
We were dead in our transgressions and sins but Christ made us alive and gave us eternal life.
God’s will is for you to have eternal life
John 6:40 NASB95
40 “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
His words bring eternal life
John 6:68 NASB95
68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.
and the spirit brings life through the word
John 6:63 NASB95
63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
Jn6:
See Jesus came to give life by laying down HIs life
John 10:11 NASB95
11 “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
and the life He gives is an abundant
John 10:10 NASB95
10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
We started today is JEsus is the way
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
John 10:28 NASB95
28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
and I want to end with this
John 17:2–3 NASB95
2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
That as Christ gave to the Apostles and we hold in our hands today the way to know the only true God and the Christ in which He sent. So we may have eternal life.
John 20:31 NASB95
31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
(Lead to invitation) - Eternal life with God is available; to all who come by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Eternal life is what you have today and are promised of the hope of future home when you are in Christ.
