So, in verse 37 they asked what they Should do? The idea applied here is they made a huge mistake and want to make the future right.
Those that listened to Peter’s sermon took them personally and they had a profound amount of regret for what they had done. Most of them in all likelihood had agreed with the action of putting Jesus to death.

Peter Begins By telling them to repent. The word repent literally means to make a 180 degree turn from sinful ways
It shows a change of direction in life not just a change of attitude, but of action too.

We must study all of Scripture and through all of Scripture it is basally clear that Baptism does not save you.
What peter is saying is repent and then be Baptized as a visible show of your repentance
To Israel Circumcision was a visible external marker of the fact that an individual was part of the covenant. Baptism is a visible external show of one’s relationship with Christ.
Baptism is not for the forgiveness of sins but rather is a visible example of that forgiveness.

The Promise is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promiced to send the spirit to dwell in those who belong in Him, enableing them to trust and follow Him as there savior and Lord
The Gift of the holy spirit is a wonderful blessing bestowed on anyone at the point of conversion.
This passage has sometimes been taken as a way to justify baptizing infents if we take it out of context. However, the point is to express the unlimited mercy of God which enbraces the current and future generations of decendents.
In addition when the Jewish Mob called for Christ’s Crusifixion they called “His blood be on us and on our Children” Which lickly also could have been a conection here.

By Luke’s statement “With many other words” He indicates that this is a summary of Peter’s sermon and not the entirety of the message. He wrote down the vital Parts.
Peter stated “Be saved from this courrupt generation” He urges his hearers to hasen and not wait to be saved.
He urged them to escape the fate that would otherwise befall them. The term corrupt generation is applied in the Old Testement to those who rebelled against God in the wilderness and in the New testement it applies to those who reject Jesus.

Many of those who herd Peter’s Sermon accepted what He said and indicated their acceptance by being Baptized. the result was a large number of new converts were added to the Church.

Luke finishes with what happens to the new converts four activities are stated.
