You Can’t Ridicule Christ and Expect a Blessed Life

Mark 14:65 KJV 1900
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
What was the problem?
The word buffet means to beat or strike with the fist.
Because he didn’t answer the way that they wanted Him to answer they beat him.
They made fun of Him by covering his eyes and slapping him and telling him to predict who hit him
They were truly scoffing in the face of God
So what does that mean to me?
We can say that they didn’t believe who he was, or they didn’t know who Jesus was but what is our excuse?
We laugh in the face of God every time we sin.
We scoff at Him thinking that we won’t be punished for it
We spit in his face and say you know what God, I’m gonna do what I want to do and that is just the way it’s gonna be.
When we act this way we are no better that the ones in the High Priest’s palace that day.
God has given us rules and examples through His word that are intended to help us live a life that is glorifying to Him
It’s simple: choose to follow him, or choose to ridicule what he’s done for you

You Can’t Manipulate His words and Expect a Blessed Life

John 19:12 NKJV
From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
John 18:12 KJV 1900
Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
What was the problem?
Jesus had rightly said He was the Son of God to the Sanhedrin
Jesus had rightly said He was the king of the Jews to Pilate
Neither of them understood the significance of His words
Now the Caiaphas was twisting these word into something that would benefit him and his motives.
Not a friend of Caesar is something that sparks fear into Pilate
God’s word is to be used in the appropriate way
So What does that mean for me?
Too many times we like to pick and choose verses to fit our circumstances or to further our own agenda
Tell us that “all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine for reproof for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
God’s word is to be taken very seriously and handled as such
We would do well to learn to apply it to our hearts and teach it to others before we try to use it as a weapon against other believers

You Can’t Deny who He is and Expect a Blessed Life

What’s the problem
The Sanhedrin denied who he was
Pilate denied who he was- His exchange and questioning of Jesus showed us he had no clue
Herod Denied who he was
Peter denied knowing who he was.
So what does that mean to me?
Salvation is not just fire insurance
We can’t only run to God and pray when it’s convenient or the last resort
We can’t pretend that we don’t know him because of who is around us
We must remember that the same eyes that looked at Peter, looks directly at us when we deny what he has done for us

You Can’t Cause Division and Expect a Blessed Life

Matthew 27:20 KJV 1900
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
What was the problem?
These guys were great at influencing the people of Jerusalem.
They screamed and yelled and threw their weight around and before you knew it, there was a mob screaming for Jesus to be crucified and most of them had no idea why.
They screamed and yelled and threw their weight around and before you knew it, there was a mob screaming for Jesus to be crucified and most of them had no idea why.
Many had seen the miracles the Jesus had performed and still scripture tells us they convinced the multitude
So what does that me for me?
There is no room for division in the House of God
It’s not a game show like Big Brother where we try to find someone to build a faction with
Division and contention does nothing but detract from doing what God has called us to do.
Jesus tells us what is expected of us as Christians: to love one another, and to forgive one another.
Conclusion:
Each and every person in the scriptures that we spoke about today made a conscious decision that effected their life. Look again at the main Scripture verse for today:
John 19:11 KJV 1900
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
John 19:12 NKJV
From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
Our sin put Him there. Our sin put the stripes on his back. Our sin caused the ridicule and pain that he felt that day. Our sin is our choice. Pilate thought he had a choice in the matter but God was in control of the situation because he loves you and he knew the choices you were going to make and he knew that you would not be able to pay the debt that needed to be paid. You have a choice to make today. You can give God full control of your life and get your heart right or you can continue to let satan peck away at you piece by piece and turn you back on your Saviour like those here today. Will you continue to deny Christ his rightful place in your life as he looks you in the eyes or will you submit to His will today.
