Our Children

Job 1:4-5

Job is one of the earliest characters of the Bible, probably contemporary with Abraham’s grandfather.

There was no Mosaic law to follow or guide people, just the understanding of God as passed down from parent to child.

Job feared the LORD greatly, and desired the same for his children.

I.          THE SCRIPTURE MANDATES THE INSTRUCTION OF CHILDREN.

            A. Train them up. (Prov.22:6)

            B. Teach them God’s law and it’s importance.  (Psalm 19:7-9; 119:11,105)

            C. Lead them by example.  (Prov.5:1-2; 7:1-3)

II.         THE SCRIPTURE GIVES EXAMPLES OF INTERCEDING FOR CHILDREN.

            A. Sacrifice personal pleasure for them if needed.

            B. Sacrifice time in prayer for them.

III.       THE SCRIPTURE IS THE ONLY RULE FOR THIS EXERCISE.

            A. The philosophies of man are not to be compared.

            B. The example of the world is inappropriate for such an undertaking.

            C. Those who do not heed the warning will pay the ultimate price.

There are no guarantees with children for they become adults and make their own decisions. However, to disregard the word of God regarding these things brings judgment in two ways.

                        1) Raise a reprobate and live with a reprobate.

                        2) We must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
