Hosanna

Mark 11:1–5 AV
And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?
Mark 11:6–11 AV
And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go. And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way. And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
Today all over the world people will be celebrating Palm sunday.
In many churches people will be given crosses made from palm leaves.
but what has this Story which as been spoken of and talked about to say to us maybe afresh today.
As i share with the people who come to the bible study on a tueday lunchtime there is a lot to say in a name and when you see a name find out what it means.
for example

The name Glenda is a Welsh baby name. In Welsh the meaning of the name Glenda is: Derived from a compound of words meaning holy and good

The name Shirley is an English baby name. In English the meaning of the name Shirley is: Bright wood; bright meadow; from the white meadow.

Hebrew Name for shirli-shirly-shirley

hebrewname.org/name/shirli-shirly-shirleyEnglish, Hebrew. Name, Shirli (Shirly, Shirley), שִׁירְלִי. Historical Period, The Modern Era, התקופה המודרנית. Meaning, The name is composed of the words שיר ( shir, "song" or "poem") and לי (li, "for me"). It menas "a song for me", or "I have a song”". השם מורכב מן המילים "שיר" ו"לי", ומשמעו "שיר בשבילי" או "יש לי שיר". History.

Names mean so much and we miss so much of the word of God when we just read a name and dont see what it means.
In our passage we find that the Jesus and his disciples where once again on the move.
First thing to note its always a good thing to be moving with Jesus The place he was yesterday may not be the place he is today.
We see that the disciples followed Jesus.
Just that statement indicates to us our position.

DISCIPLES FOLLOW JESSUS

We should be in that position that we can see where God wants us to be. In that position that we are looking forward and not backward to see where God would send us.
Lets seek to be in the place where God wants us to be let us not be to far back we carnt see the direction God is showing to us and not in front of him that we are always looking back.
MY STORY OF WALKING BACK.
Back to our story lets look at the position of people in relation with where Christ is.
In the first verse we find that Jesus and his disciples came nigh to Jerusalem unto Bethphage and Bethany

JERUSALEM =Teaching of peace.

BETHPHAGE = FIG HOUSE.

BETHANY = DATE HOUSE.

First position that i want you to see is that of the disciples

HE SENDETH FORTH TWO OF HIS DISCIPLES

To send someone forth they would either be at ones side or just in front
they would need to be willing to do the bidding of Jesus
Here we see that the disciples were close to Jesus to do that which he wanted them to do
there position there view shows to us that they were followers..
But we see in our reading that there were other people these were the people that were standing by the way these were the people who where watching
yes they were doing something they were cutting down branches and spreading them and there garments in front of the path of Jesus.
but these were the people that realy were just whatching and going along with the rest of the people
yes they had heard of Jesus yes they may have seen some of the thing that he had done
But in truth they were looking for someone to rid them of the tirany of the Romans
yes they were shouting Hosanna which means save us now but it was a shout for deliverance rather than a shout of praise
in Bible times there were triuphant entries when a victor was lead on a white horse and people would make a carpet of branches and coats
remember the tribute that was given to mordicai in the old testemant because of his help to the king.
just because people make the noise doent mean that they are following Jesus we need to look at where they are in position with Jesus
mY question to us this morning is where are we standing
are we walking with Jesus or are we looking at Jesus
maybe we are still crying hosanna Save us now
maybe were not following Jesus yet
we can come and start
