Introduction
Peter’s storm formed from his pride.
Pride keeps you from the promises of God.
Pride hides like cancer in the human heart and only reveals itself after the damage is done.
Peter had left everything to follow Jesus and has he grew closer to the Lord, spiritual pride grew silently in this heart.
Spiritual pride says, “You are good enough, your ok, you are better than most.
Statements like these only camouflage the spiritual pride while is grows harmful.
Deceptions is Satan’s favorite tool.
He deceives you and then you feel the shame and deceive others.
Deception is small in stature but big as a sin.
It is good at hiding in small places, but its damage is far and wide.
Lord open our eyes to deception in our hearts today!
-Shelly Chandler
So how do you identify pride in our heart?
Peter’s storm gives us three examples to identify pride.
Never say “Never!” ()
Matthew 26:31-
Peter believes his heart was right with God when the Words of Jesus tells him he is not right with God!
Pride makes us believe we are above other, above trouble, above falling away, above the word’s of Jesus.
Pride is presence when you think you have conquered sin.
Pride is presence when we ignore the Word of God, Prayer, Worship and relationship with God.
WE BELIEVE WE CAN DO IT.
SATAN IS OK WITH US WANTING TO DO THE RIGHT THING AS LONG AS WE WILL TRY TO ACCOMPLISH IT ON OUR OWN… THAT’S PRIDE!
admit to God today that you are a sinner.
that you have sinned.
that you have an uncontrollable sinful nature.
that you need Christ to control the sin nature.
There was a time when people went to church, heard the truth and wept over their sins.
Today people go to church, hear a motivational speech, and ignore their sins.... Ron Smith
Today I am giving you a motivational speech to acknowledge your sin!
Never say “I don’t know Him.” ()
Sometimes we want to be close to Jesus but we do not want to proclaim Jesus.
Who were these people that tried to have a conversation with Peter.
They were servants, not religious leaders who were trying to get him, they were not Roman Soldiers who could arrest him, they were common servant who were seeking to understand what was happening to Jesus.
The Gospel was being play out right in front of these servants and Peter refused to have a conversation with them.Peter refused to have a conversation about Jesus.
Peter refused to have a conversation about Jesus.
Every-time we refuse to have a conversation about Jesus we deny him.
Pride makes us think more about ourselves than the Gospel.
When was the last time you had a conversation about Jesus?
When we refuse to have a conversation about Jesus we deny Him!
Never say, “What about Him?”()
Peter does nothing to restore his relationship with Jesus, But Jesus did everything to restore His relationship with Peter.
How long will allow your relationship with God to be broken?
Many people seem to be ok with a broken relationship.
Many Christians know that there heart is not right with God and they do nothing about it… Peter when fishing!!!
Satan give us a gift of identifying sin in other peoples heart, the gift of judging, but we are slow to search our own hearts for sin!
JOHN 21
This invitation today is about you!
Not your children, not you spouse, not your boss, or a friend, or foe!
Its about you.
IT about when where you will be spiritual when Jesus returns, or when you die.
There is one question that will matter on that Day.
ARE YOU FOLLOWING CHRIST?
IS HE LORD OF YOUR LIFE?
IS HE IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE?
