He’s Alive
Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
We read today words of hope and victory
“He is not here, but He is risen!”
From the moment that Adam and Eve opened the the door to sin and sickness death reigned in the lives of man
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The hope of eternal life rests not on the actions of men but rather the suffering of the captain of our faith, Christ Jesus
So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:
“You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.”
As He also says in another place:
“You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek”;
who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
Today I have begotten you - Psalm 2:7 referring to his entry into the stream of mortal men. The word here implies taking a form rather than being created
We also see a reference from Psalm 110 referring to the priesthood of Melchisedec
He appears suddenly without beginning or end. He establishes the order of priesthood before Arron is even born
Earthly offices of priests and religious leaders are established by men and sought after by many but the heavenly service of priesthood is bestowed upon the believer by God!
But one must remember that a call to serve God comes at a great cost
who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
The text here clearly reinforces the point that the current condition in the flesh was limited - “in the days of His flesh”
Christ experienced everything that fallen man faces yet was without sin
That battle involved great battles of will between the Spirit and the flesh
It was with great passion and determination that Christ stayed the course for our gain
He leaves for us an example of how victory is won over sin…with much prayers, supplications and vehement cries and tears
The word vehement here means powerful, passionate, to be strong, to be masterful, - it emphasizes the actual power implied for ability or capacity rather then the possessor
It is indicating that the power Christ demonstrated resided not in His flesh but was accessed and manifested through His prayers and supplications!
Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.
At the preaching of the Word there was result because of the power contained within!
The Scripture tells us that at our times of greatest weakness He manifests His strength
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
We see the heart of the Savior as reveled in His last prayer
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
It wasn’t deliverance from the impending suffering that was Christs’ lot that day but rather the strength and power to complete the task at hand
It wasn’t deliverance from the jaws of death His lot but rather the strength to be carried well through death’s grip
Each of us face the same destiny
There is no escape for our flesh death but rather He can carry us well through it unto the our resurrection in the likeness of Him who has saved us
Matt Henry: “We may have many recoveries from sickness, but we are never saved from death until we are carried well through it. And those taht are thus saved from death will be fully delivered at last by a glorious resurrection, of which the resurrection of Christ was the earnest and first-fruit!”
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Let me ask you today…have you tasted of the Lord’s goodness in your life?
Do you know for sure that you will be carried though death well for as surly as the sun rises in the morning, one day the sun will set on your life
And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
