Introduction
He is Risen!
John 20:1-18
Let’s Pray
John 20:1-4
John 20:1-
In life there are two types of people - people who run towards something and people who run away.
We see that Peter and John take off running for the tomb.
I love John, forever in scripture it is recorded, that he ran to the tomb first.
He got to the tomb first.
When our lives are in disarray we need to run to Jesus.
Too often we run to things that are distractions from life.
Maybe it’s TV. - In America on average we watch nearly 4.5 hours of TV per day.
That’s 20% of our day is spent watching TV.

Maybe it’s the movies
In 2016 in North America we spent $11 Billion going to the movies

Maybe it’s drugs - in 2015 Colorado ranked 16/50 for most drug overdoses per 100,000

Last year, just in Colorado we spent $1.5 billion on marijuana

All of us are running towards something - we are running to escape reality
Whether it’s escaping through TV, movies, drugs, alcohol, food, sex, porn - pick your poison, we are running.
The question is - are you running to towards Jesus?
Instead of one TV show - read 30 minutes of your Bible
Instead of one R rated movie - watch a Christian Movie, like Samson, or I Can Only Imagine, or God’s Not Dead
Instead of drugs - get filled with the Holy Spirit
Will you run to Jesus, be like Peter and John - run to Him
John 20:5-
The folded up head wrapping is important.
If Jesus’ body had been stolen - would the grave robbers have taken the time to fold the head wrapping?
If Jesus’ body had been stolen - would they have taken off the linen cloths all together?
This is important because Jesus’ body was not stolen!
He rose from the dead!
Grave Robbery Continues Today - how many of you remember Charlie Chaplian - listen to his story:
Silent film icon Charlie Chaplin died in December 1977.
Several months later, in March 1978, his grave was found open, a pile of fresh earth piled next to the hole.
According to a contemporary report by the Associated Press, Chaplin's entire coffin was missing, and drag marks in the grass suggested it had been dragged to a nearby alley and whisked away by truck.
At first, there was no hint as to who had stolen the famed body.
Some speculated that crazy fans had stolen the body to repatriate it to Chaplin's native England.

It took more than two months to discover the body snatchers — a Bulgarian and a Polish immigrant who demanded a ransom of 332,000 British pounds — equivalent to approximately 1.7 million British pounds today, or $2.6 million.

Chaplin's widow had no interest in paying the ransom.
A police spokesman told The Glasgow Herald: "For her, her husband was in heaven and in her heart, and nowhere else."
But she led the body snatchers on so that police could monitor their calls demanding ransom.
They eventually nabbed one of the co-conspirators in a phone booth in Lausanne, Switzerland, according to the Herald.
Chaplin's body was found buried in a cornfield 12 miles (19 kilometers) from the cemetery.
He was reburied in the same grave — but with the addition of a concrete tomb around the casket.

Jesus’ body was not stolen.
He was resurrected - He is the resurrection
Chaplain’s entire casket was stolen.
Jesus’ head wrapping was folded nicely and laid in his tomb.
Had Jesus’ body been taken would they have taken the time to nicely fold the head wrappings?
What about the Roman Soldiers that were put there to guard the tomb?
Wouldn’t they have noticed the grave being robbed?
John 20:8-10
John 20:8-
John’s belief came when he saw the empty tomb!
Do you remember when you believed?
Do you remember when you believed that Jesus rose from the dead?
Do you remember when you believed that Jesus died for your sins?
John believed when he went into the empty tomb.
The tomb was empty!
He is Risen!
John 20:11-18
John 20:11-
“I have seen the Lord!” - Mary Magdalene
This statement is important because it shows the truth of scripture.
The Christian religion
What a statement!
Women could not testify - and yet Mary was essentially testifying that she had seen the Risen Lord!
What a statement!
What a testimony!
Who will you share your testimony with?
Jesus death and resurrection has an effect on all of us.
If we truly believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, that He rose from the grave - then who are you going to share that with?
People are looking for something - a distraction from life
Whether they find it in TV, Movies, Drugs, Alcohol, or some other sedattative - they are looking for an escape.
The true escape is from death - through the resurrection of Jesus.
9/10 people in Colorado do not believe in Jesus
Billions of dollars are being spent to escape life - the question is - will they escape death, and will we have the courage to share with them how that is done.
