Be Encouraged by the Resurrection

2 Timothy 2:1 NLT
Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:1
The power of Christ makes you brave.
By his grace we are made strong to live out this life for Christ.
God’s grace empowers us to serve the Lord and to suffer for his sake.

Grace empowers us to suffer and to serve as God’s witness.

2 Timothy 2:2
2 Timothy 2:2 NLT
You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
We need to have the teachings of Christ hidden in our heart.
We need to follow the wisdom of confirmed witnesses of God’s word.
We should listen to sound teaching and teach others what we know.

Paul is encouraging Timothy to train up faithful leaders for the Church to lead by good examples.

Share in the Suffering as a good soldier of Christ.

2 Timothy 2:3 NLT
Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:3
Serving Christ does involve suffering and great discipline.
2 Timothy 2:4–7 NLT
Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.
2 Timothy 2:4-
Jackie Robison is a good example of knowing to endure is to accept suffering. In choosing Jackie Robinson to break the color barrier in baseball involved certain character. They needed a person who could endure the harsh criticism and not break.
Endure with great focus remembering the power of Christ grace.
Endure knowing you have a goal to accomplish for the Kingdom.
His grace and amazing love will give you the power to stand under the pressure knowing he is able to lift you up.
Being faithful to God is preparing you for his blessings in your life.

Remember Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.

2 Timothy 2:8–10 NLT
Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach. And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained. So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.
2 Timothy 2:8-11
Know Jesus is Christ the anointed one who fulfills the promise of God.
Jesus is a descendant of the great king David as God promised he will forever have a ruler from his lineage.
Jesus defeated death by rising from the grave on the third day.

Jesus death was our penalty for our sins.

We must remember we are sinners in need of God’s grace.
God’s grace was demonstrated through his Son.
Our Faith in the Son’s work for our Salvation brings us into God’s grace and power of his resurrection.

How now should we live?

Live with Christ

2 Timothy 2:11–13 NLT
This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him. If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us. If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.
2 Timothy 2:11-13
We are dead to this world and our Sins to Live for Christ and with Christ.
With Christ we endure with him.
Be willing to suffer for his name sake.
Know the way of humility, patience and showing forgiveness in love.
Got to know pain to share in his reign.
If we deny him he will deny us.
We should not shrink under the pressure.
We must look to God’s grace to give us strength.
In those times you can’t make it trust God to take you through.

God is faithful.

God will never forget his own.

His love brings us out of those dark places.
1 Corinthians 1:9 NLT
God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus is our hope and our promise and our Yes is in Him. Amen.

2 Corinthians 1:18–20 NLT
As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

God is faithful to keep us from falling into sin.

1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Remember we have Life through Christ.

Let us live with him and for him.
Let us remember we are saved by grace.
Let us walk in the power of God’s grace.
