The Tribulation will be a time of unseen horrors. When we turn on the morning news or look around in everyday life, we can witness the end time evils revealed in Revelation, but not to the degree John writes about in Revelation 8:13–9:21. Jesus’ vision given to John makes us ask questions like:
Why would God unleash hell upon the earth?
If God is so good, why does He allow bad things to happen?
John answers: God Unleashes Hell on Earth to Judge Evil and Bring Repentance. However John’s answer make us ask the question:
Why then do people not repent, when they see and experience pain, suffering, and even death?
The Bible says that left to our own depraved hearts we will never repent. Romans 3:10–12.
Romans 3:10–12 NASB95
as it is written, There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.”
Jeremiah describes the undeniable depravity of our hearts, in Jeremiah 17:9.
Jeremiah 17:9 NASB95
“The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?
Left to desires we will not seek God: therefore, God sent His Son to seek and save the lost. Likewise, Jesus sends believers to share the gospel in order bring unrepentant hearts to repentance and belief in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.
Have you ever watched someone you love disobey God and suffer the consequences? Have you ever asked why? Why don’t they see what they are doing and stop it.
Friends we are free to make our own choices, but we are not free to choose the consequence of our choices. Our friends and loved ones who make choices outside God’s will, often think they can change the consequences by making more choices of they own accord. The only choice that changes a life for the better is repentance and obedience to God. Which are only possible through the grace of Jesus’ gospel.
Revelation helps us see the uniqueness and urgency of the gospel.
Let us pray.
As a result of hearing the fifth angel’s trumpet sound, John witnesses as a star, which has fallen from heaven to earth, is given the key to the shaft of the abyss. The star opens the shaft of the abyss and smoke rises. The smoke looks like smoke rolling out of a great furnace. The rolling smoke darkens the sun and the sky.
Then out of the smoke locusts ascend upon the earth. The locusts were given power to wreak havoc on the earth. Their power was liken to the power of scorpions. They could harm but not kill. They would harm the un-expecting inhabitants of the earth.
