TS:
What did Jesus predict in ?
Matthew 24:24 ESV
24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
Tonight, we examine the 2nd beast of
Revelation 13:11–18 ESV
11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence, and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed. 13 It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, 14 and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of the beast it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15 And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain. 16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.

1. Characteristics of the False Prophet (11-12)

A. Arises from the earth

Beastly, just like the Antichrist
He will lead the world to worship the antichrist or be killed.
All talk of religious tolerance will have ended.

B. 2 Horns like a lamb

Perhaps he tries to imitate the Lamb of God.
What did Jesus say about imitators in ?
Matthew 7:15–16 ESV
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Many will imitate Jesus and many false prophets will point to fake messiahs.
Though claiming to have the truth, he will preach lies and point away from God.

C. Spoke like the dragon

Satan is called the dragon in
Here, the false prophet speaks the dragon’s message.
Satan will continue to pervert the word of God
The false prophet will be as others and speak his Satanic message.

D. Exercises authority of the Antichrist

He will be granted authority from the AC
They will work hand in hand to carry out Satan’s plan on earth.
Many envision a shared responsibility
AC over 1 world government
False Prophet over a 1 world religion

E. Causes all to worship the AC

He points to the antichrist as savior
The promised one of all religions.

2. The Powers of the false Prophet (13-15)

Revelation 13:13–15 ESV
13 It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, 14 and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of the beast it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15 And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain.

A. Great Wonders

Performs miracles through Satanic power an trickery
all aimed to deceive the world.
What do the following verses indicate about Satan’s followers having the ability to imitate the works of God?
Exodus 7:10–13 ESV
10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. 12 For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Still Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
Exodus 7:20–22 ESV
20 Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile turned into blood. 21 And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. 22 But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
Exodus 8:6–7 ESV
6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 But the magicians did the same by their secret arts and made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.

B. Deceives the world through miracles

His signs will deceive many
Even today, we see people accepting unbiblical teachings if they see what they think is a miracle.
No amount of miracles makes acceptable false teachings!
Often the “miracles” come at a price.
By what standard do we test the teachings of any prophet?
Galatians 1:6–9 ESV
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.
Jude 3 ESV
3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

C. Animates the Statue

When written, this would read like another miracle, however today, technology can do this.
Either way, the point is that it is used for deception.
This is similar to Nebuchadnezzar's statue in .
Daniel 3:1–6 ESV
1 King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. 2 Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent to gather the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 3 Then the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. And they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4 And the herald proclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, 5 that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. 6 And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace.”

3. The Mark of the Beast (16-18)

Revelation 13:16–18 ESV
16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.

A. The Meaning of the Mark

This is topic of speculation and debate
Some have resisted all ID#’s due to this passage.
Some through creative math have arrived at names:
Adolf Hitler
Mussolini
Purple Dinosaur
It is said to be the number of man, 666
In numerology, 7 is considered God’s number and the number of completion.
6 is man’s due to created on 6th day.
We cannot be certain of any such speculations.
The main significance:
Taking it is a sign of loyalty and fealty to the AC
It is an act of worship and identification.
I do not believe we have to fear accidentally taking the mark.
It will be a choice people make and by which they unite with the AC.

B. The Use of the Mark

It ill be a tatoo or chip on the forehead or hand.
by which they can buy and sell
At one point, this sounded odd, but today, with microchip tech and the move to cashless transactions, this is easily done.
There will be a world-wide ban on not trading with the
“unmarked”
Pretty easy to see today
Companies are boycotting others due to political stances.

Conclusion:

The world has seen a rise of false prophets and will continue to do so until Christ returns and establishes permanent residence on Earth.
While all brothers and sisters in Christ are unified, not all who claim Christ are His.
False prophets abound and will continue.
We must know the truth and guard the faith.
What did God instruct believers in to do when faced with immorality and false prophets?
1 Corinthians 5:1–5 ESV
1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife. 2 And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you. 3 For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. 4 When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5 you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
