Seven Things God Hates

(The Wicked Man)

Proverbs 6:16-19 (NIV)
16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.[1]

I.         Introduction:  A really evil man is pictured. Perhaps as we paint the picture, you can discover who I am talking about.

II.       Personal Aspects (5)

A.      Eyes - Arrogance/pride (i.e. pictures of self, painting positive self)

B.      Tongue – Lying (Contradictions, - no scuds, then shoot them)

C.      Hands – Murder (Gassing own people, Kurdish uprising)

D.      Heart – Scheming (Planning evil, devising evil plans)

E.      Feet – rushing toward evil (Quick to take to evil, not regard good)

III.     Persuasive Aspects (2)

A.      Witness to lies – false witness, (lying about others for own benefit)

B.      Warring Factions – Influence, (to pit one brother against another)

IV.    Conclusion: Have you guessed who it is? Perhaps you know who I am talking about. Who is the wicked man? You might have seen this person lately, maybe even in your own mirror, for it is the one who breaks any point of the law. It is you, apart from the grace of God. For if we have broken one point of law, we have broken them all. We stand condemned as sure as if we have broken every one.

James 2:10-11 (NIV)

10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11 For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” b also said, “Do not murder.” c If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker. [2]

But by the grace of God, There go I
