When You Pray - Part 5

Kidz World Today - Children’s Church and Teen Growth Group
Matthew 6:5–13 NKJV
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
When You Pray
In Verse 10 we the manner of prayer - should be about requesting things from God and pleading for specific items and or issues!
Matthew 6:10 NKJV
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Verse 9 The manner of prayer is about surrender and worship!
Matthew 6:9 NKJV
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Today I want to close out this sermon series on the Model Prayer and look at verses 11, 12, 13
When You Pray
Matthew 6:11 NKJV
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Bread
Bread is the basic necessity of life, Bread is a symbol of all that is necessary for survival!
"Give us”.
The words our and us overcome selfishness and show concern for others.
As followers of Jesus Christ you and I should be concerned about anyone who goes to bed hungry
"This day."
This eliminates worry and anxiety about tomorrow and the distant future.
It also teaches and helps us to trust God day by day.
The World Is Hungry For God
We must petition God to give us physical and spiritually bread to feed both body and soul!
Let’s Go A Little Deeper
Matthew 6:12 NKJV
12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
Forgiveness
The word "Debts"means dues, duties, that which is owed, or that which is legally due.
In relation to sin, it means a failure to pay one's debts, one's dues; a failure to do one's duty; to keep one's responsibilities.
This prayer is asking God to do three things.
1. To forgive the debt of sin.
Everyone has failed God in their duty; or responsibility therefore, we needs God to forgive our debt.
2. To forgive the debt of guilt or punishment.
Everyone who has failed to pay his or her debts is guilty;
therefore, you must pay the consequences; and that is some type of punishment .
This is the reason we must pray "Father, forgive my debts...."
3. To forgive his debts just as he has forgiven his debtors.
This is asking God to forgive me exactly as he forgives others. If you forgive , God forgives.
If you do not forgive, God does not forgive.
Therefore, any person who holds anything against someone else is not forgiven of their sins, no matter what you may think or has been told by another person
Matthew 6:14–15 NLT
14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
1 John 1:9 NKJV
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Jeremiah 33:8 NKJV
8 I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me.
There are those who have done you wrong.
In this world folks say and do all manner of evil and craziness against us
People and their evil purposes are running wild, and it's not always outside the church, or by people outside your family.
Sometimes the worst evil is committed by word and act both within the church and within a person's family!
Jesus says we must not react nor be harsh toward those who sin severely against us, but we must forgive.
We must forgive if we wish to be forgiven.
Matthew 10:21 NLT
21 “A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.
Mark 13:12–13 The Message
12 “It’s going to be brother killing brother, father killing child, children killing parents. 13 There’s no telling who will hate you because of me. “Stay with it—that’s what is required. Stay with it to the end. You won’t be sorry; you’ll be saved.
Ephesians 4:30–32 NLT
30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
There are four things a follower of Jesus Christ must do when people sin against you.
1. You must understand
Proverbs 17:27–28 NLT
27 A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered. 28 Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.
2) You must have patience
Ephesians 4:2 NLT
2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
3. You must forgive
Ephesians 4:31–32 NLT
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
4. You must forget
Philippians 3:13 NLT
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
2 Corinthians 10:5 NCV
5 and every proud thing that raises itself against the knowledge of God. We capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ.
Matthew 6:13 NKJV
13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Temptation
Deliverance
James 1:13 NKJV
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
1. Pray that God will keep you from the pull of temptation.
The follower of Christ is to have a sense of your own personal weakness against temptation.
2. Pray that God will deliver you from evil.
The Greek says "from the evil one," that is, Satan. The request is for God to rescue, preserve, and guard us.
The evil one, is so deceptive and powerful; he is as powerful as a roaring lion
1 Peter 5:8 NLT
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
The plea and the cry is for God to deliver us from (1) temptation, and (2) from the evil one
Doxology— The kingdom and the power and the glory:
The point of the doxology is to stress that everything belongs to God.
1. He is the Source of the kingdom and the power and the glory.
2. He is the Possessor of the kingdom and the power and the glory.
3. He is the Recipient of the kingdom and the power and the glory.
Acts 17:24–25 NKJV
24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.
Deuteronomy 4:39 NKJV
39 Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.
Psalm 83:18 KJV 1900
18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, Art the most high over all the earth.
Amen:
so be it; it is and shall be so.
When spoken by God, "Amen" means it is and shall be so, unequivocally.
When spoken by man it is a petition meaning, "Let it be."
Here, in the Lord's Prayer, the word Amen is a word of commitment.
When a you pray the Lord's prayer and close by saying "Amen" (let it be), you are committing yourself to do your part for the things which have been prayed.
Matthew 6:9–13 NKJV
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
