Meditation

When you consider all the different things that were said and done at the crucifixion of Jesus, it seems such a trivial thing for John to have mention the soldiers dividing up his clothing. It was a common thing for those responsible for crucifying criminals to do. Clothing was expensive in those days, having to be made by hand. But John shared what happened because in it, he saw the fulfillment of , “They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.”
Have you ever wonder about what happened to Jesus’ undergarment, the one they decided not to tear, but cast lots to see who got it?” I guess it is not all that important, knowing what happened to it. But the question intrigued Loyd Douglas until in 1949 he wrote the story, later in 1953 to be made into the movie, The Robe.
