Did you know there is a test you can take to see if you are right or left handed?

Are you ever confused over whether you are really right-handed or left-handed? In The New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. J. E. Block of Sedalia, Mo., tells of a simple test. Hold up your thumbs side by side, and look at the base of your nails. On your dominant hand, the base of the nail is usually wider and more squared off.

Testing can cause a lot of emotions with a person.

Body:
We move into Chapter 19 of Matthew.
We find a new section of writing.
Matthew comes out of the section of the “Extraordinary Revelation” and moves into a section we might title the “Extraordinary Entrance Into.”
Let us not forget, the overall theme of Matthew is the revealing of the Kingdom of Heaven.
So in Chapter 19 we are going to be seeing this idea of this “extraordinary entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven.”
As we start to look at Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
What do we see ...... Jesus’s compassion for the people (He heals them).
I am so glad I serve this kind of God. A God who, when He sees his people struggling and hurting he respond with love and kindness (heals them).
But before we can even get to Jesus talking about “entering into the Kingdom of heaven” we find Jesus (Vs 3) is approached by some highly supportive individuals who are just soaking up everything he is saying and doing, (Heavy Sarcasm).
NO! What we read is, Pharisees came up to him and tested him.
I feel safe to say that in our culture today we don’t like the word “Testing.”
The thought of taking a test causes some people to break out into hives.
But the truth of the matter is, TESTING is good for us.
Taking a test to see what we have learned. How much we have grown. How much we have improved. It’s good for us.
Many of you (High-School & College Students) would probably disagree with me because you have just completed a time in your life where you have taken those final exams (Testing at the end of the year to see what you have learned).
But the things is you know exactly what it is like to be tested.
For all of us adults who may not have taken a final exam, we are not exempted from this are we? We are tested every day aren’t we?
Tested in life to do the right things, say the right things, to conduct ourselves the right way.
Do we pay this bill today or wait until next week, do I cheat on my spouse or not, do I chew out that guy who cut me off or not ...... the list is endless ......... but it would be safe to say we are tested every day, AMEN?
FB has these test you can take to determine who is your wife or husband will be.
Can I give you a suggestion ...... if you are married, DON’T TAKE THAT TEST.
We are tested every day!
There are test for everything .....

The thing about testing is it can cause a lot of emotions with a person.

This is what testing can do .... cause emotions to rise up within us.
We read in verse 3 that a group of pharisees approached Jesus to test him.
Remember this is not the first time they do this .... ( And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.)
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
What I want to focus in on today is this word “Testing”!
Life is a test.
So, with that being the case, I think it’s important for us to understand what scripture tells us about “TESTING.”
In the Greek we find three different words that can be translated into the English word “Test.”
These three come from the same “ROOT” word in the Greek (Peria)
Ekpeirazo - we find this word used in ! remember, And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
This word has that feel and sense of “Being Challenged.” It is usually directed to God or Jesus.
You have heard sports figures say something like, “We overcame the challenge (the test)!”
Unless your a Browns fan!
This understanding of this word is best revealed in Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts.
If there is one thing God is not pleased with is people who lack faith.
The Lord said to “TEST” him. It was a challenge issued to the people.
Another Greek word we find translated “Test” ......
2. Peirasmos - we find this word used in in the Lord’s prayer, “And lead us not into temptation,
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
but deliver us from evil.
a. Causing someone to depart from the correct path, the threat of being misled into disobedience.
b. A test that would cause us to fall away.
c. This is the exact situation you would encounter when being tempted into an affair.
The word we find in 9:3 is this Greek word .....
3. Peirazo - we find it not just here but in as well .... Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
a. Its more about answering a question correctly. Put to the test!
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
Climax:
I think this is important for us to know today.
This understanding of the word “Test.”
Its okay to TEST God (Ekpeirozo)
Test God!
I’m not talking about asking for a million dollars!
Remember, when they were to test God in it was because they were bringing some of the tithe but not all of it.
WHY? Because of their lack of faith.
God said bring it all.
We must respond first before we test God on his part of the equation.
Understand that God will not cause us to fall into temptation (Peirasmos)
He doesn’t do that. The enemy does that.
God is not going to place something in our path that would entice us to stray from Him.
Our prayer should be for us to recognize when the enemy is trying to do this and flea.
Allow ourselves to be “Put to the Test.” (Peirazo)
Jesus knew exactly what they were doing.
He didn’t get upset with them .... He glorified God through it.
Jesus knew exactly what they were doing
This is where we grow spiritually.
This is where our faith grows.
Conclusion:
So let’s apply this to our lives today ......
What is it that you need God to do today?
Test Him!
What is it that the enemy is enticing you with?
Acknowledge it an flea!
What is it you are going through?
Embrace it!
It may be the greatest lesson you will ever learn.
I believe it will cause you to draw closer and know God more through it.
Won’t you come and this morning? I know I need to come ..... Join me!
