Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

When a name is mentioned in scripture it says something about the significance of what was about to happen.

So often society, the nay sayers, negative talk puts a label on us and identifies us by our obvious features.
You may be identified by the colour of your skin, your hair colour, your disability, or some other external aspect of your life, short, tall the person with a limp but not the person who you are on the inside.
Though he was blind he probably felt others around him, didn’t really see who he really was, they were blind and didn’t see him. Overlooked, not seen.
But God doesn’t define us by our outward appearance the external He identifies our hearts, who we are on the inside.
A miracle was about to happen, Jesus saw who he really
he was a man of faith.
A man who could not see Jesus in the physical, could truly see Jesus in the spiritual.
hey He saw more than those who walking with Jesus, He perceived what the others will still yet to grasp.
Bart found what resource that was available to him, His voice.
As Jesus and the big crowd passed by, he caught Jesus attention, “Jesus, Son of David have mercy on me”
People the crowd were telling him to shut up, be quiet

But their jeers made him shout even louder, he was not giving up even in the face of opposition.
Bart shouted even more, “Jesus, son of David”- which meant that he acknowledged that he was the Messiah, he had authority to heal to give him what he needed.
They could not shut him up,
Sometimes we are intimidated to be quiet not to pray or call on Jesus, whether it is fear, doubt, others, excuses, our own sufficiency.
So don’t give up on the promises of God, don’t give up hope, Jesus hears you, You are about to have your breakthrough that you are believing for.
What ever was going on it caught Jesus attention, it stopped him in his tracks.
He asked his disciples to “call him” over.
They yelled and called back-
hey you making all that racket over there, cheer up-stop your whining and get “on your feet”- get be ready Hey Jesus is “calling you”
Jesus has heard you
Application:
Jesus hears us when we call, he hears our desperate cries, our desperate hearts, even when our prayer is not answered, he still hears us, so don’t give up, Jesus hears your voice, you are heard.
Faith is evidence of what we do not see.
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see.

Throwing his cloak aside,
The cloak represents his identity, where he sat each day and begged, it was a source of finance, where people would give to him as he begged it was his social security.
It was also the cloak that he covered himself in, it was his means of warmth and covering.
This covering meant a life of misery, ostercised, victim, unclean, outcast, someone who didn’t have a voice or eye sight.
So when he cast aside his cloak he was expectant that Jesus was about to do something amazing.
He discarded, he left behind his old life, old self, old identity,
He rose above everything that people tried to keep him in what they thought about him, he was ready to let it go.
Bart was about to step into something new and amazing.
His heart was full of faith.
QUESTION:
What do you want me to do for you?
It was obvious wasn’t it-Jesus sometimes states the obvious, but he is looking for our response what are we believing Jesus for,
He knows our needs before we even ask.
However Jesus was looking for a response of faith.
he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
Question
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, Which means teacher, divine teacher, he could see with the eyes of faith, he was the promised one in scripture.
“I want to see.”
A basic response, a simple response and it was obvious.
BUT it was significant, Bart was about to receive his miracle, the cry of his heart.
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”
Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
GO-Faith is a doing word, faith is action
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
There is something futuristic about faith- it has substance, tangible, active, real.
what is the meaning of Faith-also faith means confidence
As God’s children of Grace faith is valuable. To live by law and under the law faith is worthless, because faith is not in God it is in the set of rules of do’s and don’ts. therefore the promises of faith become worthless.
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,

This month is healing month but healing is not confined to a month, this is the acceptable year of the Lords favour. We constantly live by faith, on July the 1st its not that we stop believing for healing.
Healing is an ongoing part of our story with our life in Christ.
Our faith in Christ, continues Jesus can heal anytime all you have to do is believe.
A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

His forceful and artistic use of language undergirds and strengthens his logical arguments, OT proof texts, dire warnings of judgment for apostasy, and exhortations to faithfulness.

The most highly rhetorical passage in Hebrews is the example list of famous individuals in chap. 11. In Heb 11:3–31 the author’s use of anaphora is extremely effective. Eighteen times the listeners hear πίστει and yet another example of how faith in unseen realities enabled a hero of the past to maintain firm belief in God’s promises in spite of adverse situations
This is a highly effective speech preach that is repetitive and is extremely effective by the author of Hebrews.
Much of the NT was written to be read out aloud it was written to inspire, and uplift the reader especially , taking both reader and listener into great depth and understanding through story telling and repetition.
there is no doubt that Faith is the key subject of chapter 11
Now faith is the evidence and substance of what we hoped for,
What are we hoping for?
And what is the evidence in our hearts of what we can’t see physical but believe, we know, we are assured.
These faith filled and faithful patriarchs inherited God’s promises and call that were wonderful and extraordinary
However extraordinary things were expected and trialled in them and persecuted.
They faced incredible persecution, but were able to with stand incredible situations because they had faith in the Holy one.
Through Faith you will be healed,
