Hudson Taylor's favorite hymn was "Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting." In a moment, you'll hear the words to that song.
When he was getting old and his mind was not as sharp as it used to be, he was speaking one day and he got stuck on these words, "Jesus, I am resting, resting." Over & over he repeated those words, "Jesus, I am resting, resting. Jesus, I am resting, resting."
Born in 1832. Became a Christian at age 17. There was tremendous spiritual growth. He soon felt called to go as a missionary to the people of China.
For six years he shared his faith and prayed for God to allow him to lead Chinese people to faith in Christ. He gave everything in his life over to this mission of sharing Christ.
Guess how many people came to Christ in those 6 years? None. Not a single person. But rather than give up and quit because he felt like a failure, he re-grouped and learned how to rest in Jesus -- trusting God for the results of his life and ministry.
When he came back to China and started again, he had been disowned by the missions agency he'd worked with. But that didn't deter him.
People began coming to Christ. His life became a living testimony of what it means to be centered in Christ -- to find your satisfaction in Christ -- to not be overwhelmed by what is happening right now and miss what God is going to accomplish in the future --
to rest completely in Jesus.
