2 Timothy 3:1–5 NLT
You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
In the last days people will act religious but will reject the power that could make them godly.
We are talking about personal revival!
Lord, move in my life and send revival inside this circle I have drawn around myself.
REVITALIZE MY LIFE, SPIRIT MAN, CHURCH and COMMUNITY and NATION
I REPENT of my SECRET SIN, MAKE RESTITUTION and FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE SINNED AGAINST ME
RESTORE a LOVE FOR YOUR WORD and DESIRE TO STUDY IT
NOW -
“Lord, I pray for a release of the Holy Spirit to give me empowerment for service and a compassion for lost people.”
The contemporary church is lacking the power of the Holy Spirit, and it is the same Holy Spirit that drives a compassion in our hearts for those who do not know Christ and need Him. His power enables us to minister to the needs of those around us!
BUT THE CHURCH DOES NOT WANT TO BE BOTHERED.
I need salvation for me, thank you very much, meet my needs, thank you ---
GIVE, HELP, REACH OUT....
This comes from the overflowing power of the Holy Spirit within us.
What would happen if we began praying for God to release the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives - not to make us feel good - but to be USED BY GOD!!!!
I received the power of the Holy Spirit when I was 12 years old --- it transformed my way of thinking and the desires of my heart. It fired me up to pursue God, the ministry and to make a difference in other people’s lives!
When I was 17 and heading to Bible College, I asked God to use me in the gifts of the Spirit because I did not think I would be effective in ministry if I did not have HIS power enabling me!
I asked for a release of HIS SPIRIT in my life - and HE GAVE IT---
Matthew 7:7–12 NLT
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
Luke 11:13 NLT
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
Luke 11:5–13 NLT
Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
Luke 11
If we ask for the Spirit - HE PROMISES TO GIVE THE SPIRIT!

1. Release Power to Live Right According to Your Spirit and Word

Ephesians 5:18–21 NLT
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Something happens when the Holy Spirit empowers our lives ---
we begin LIVING RIGHT!!!!
Paul instructed the church to stop seeking fulfillment from worldly pleasure (drunkeness) and be filled with the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is fulfillment of our needs - not the things of this earth. When we have the fullness of the Spirit in our lives we will begin to truly WALK IN THE SPIRIT and not according to the flesh!
Galatians 5:16 NLT
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
Let me ask a SIMPLE QUESTION...
If we are filled with the overflowing power of the Holy Spirit - wouldn’t it make sense that it would be easier to walk according to the Spirit?
As a Christian, God intended for you to have this fullness in your life...
Not just the measure of the Spirit you receive at salvation - but the overflowing power of the Spirit that comes from being Baptized in the Spirit which is evidenced by speaking in another language.
Luke 3:16 NLT
John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Luke, the author of Luke and Acts - presents the ministry of Christ through the Spirit and its intent in the Christian’s life.
This Baptism with fire, was first experienced on the Day of Pentecost - a time AFTER the disciples had the Spirit breathed on them for salvation ---
It was an empowerment to LIVE FOR CHRIST and DO HIS WILL AND WORK in the world!
FIRE PURGES IMPURITY --- the FIRE OF THE SPIRIT PURGES THE SIN FROM OUR LIVES
I want to walk in the SPIRIT and I want the FRUIT of the SPIRIT to grow in my life...
AGAIN, does it not make more sense, that the more of the Spirit in your life, the greater he can produce HIS FRUIT in your life....
Galatians 5:19–21 NLT
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:22–23 NLT
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
If I want to have a personal revival - I need the RELEASE OF THE SPIRIT in my life to EMPOWER ME TO LIVE for CHRIST, WALK IN THE SPIRIT, and PRODUCE HIS FRUIT in ME.

2. RELEASE A BURDEN for the LOST and COMPASSION so OTHERS MIGHT BE SAVED

Matthew 9:36 NLT
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 9:37–38 NLT
He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
JESUS had COMPASSION on those perishing without HIM!!!
He came to SEEK and to SAVE that which was lost...
Luke 19:10 NLT
For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
This is HIS HEARTBEAT, HIS WILL, HIS DESIRE...
If we are going to draw closer to the Lord, shouldn’t we share in that same desire!!!
When we ask for the Lord to RELEASE HIS HOLY SPIRIT in our lives - it is to help us be a part of fulfilling HIS HEARTBEAT --- REACHING THE LOST.
If we have no compassion for those who are lost, than we probably need a refreshing of His Holy Spirit in our lives!!!
Acts 1:8 NLT
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
His power is to make us HIS WITNESS to the LOST!!!
Remember the first week when we talked about humility?
Humbling ourselves means to seek the needs of others over our own --- something that is highly contradictory to our society’s way of thinking.
The spiritual need in our world is great --- people need Jesus
WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THAT?
Is our desires and want for ourselves and our families greater than the desire to see the lost saved???
When we pray for God to release HIS SPIRIT into our lives, we are opening ourselves up for HIM to pour HIS COMPASSION for the lost into our lives!!!!

3. RELEASE YOUR GIFTS AND ENABLE ME TO BE USED BY YOU

1 Peter 4:10–11 NLT
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
Matthew 9:36 NLT
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

1 Corinthians 12:4–11 NKJV
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Romans 12:1–11 NLT
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.
These passages of Scripture talk about spiritual gifts, those the Spirit gives to the church as He wills for when He wills for the sake of encouragement and building up the body,
Also, those gifts each of us possess to be used for the glory of God and for His Kingdom.
There is so much ministry that needs to be done, no Pastor alone could do it...
Ephesians 4:11–13 NLT
Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
Eph 6
God has given spiritual leadership to equip the body to do ministry ---
Can you imagine what would take place if everyone in the body started operating in their spiritual gifts????
Started using them???
And what would happen if we began taking those gifts to the marketplace - so when we prayed for people at work, our neighborhood, etc the RELEASE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT POURED THROUGH US through these TOOLS into the world and community around us!!!!!!!
There are needs in our community!
I have a vision to see a Celebrate Recovery ministry helping people overcome addictions...
I have a vision to see a ministry of helps serving those in practical ways - a widow needing to be moved or having her home fixed, or yard cleaned
I have a vision to see us feeding those in need, reaching out to the youth of our community who are at risk...
I cannot do that alone!
We each need to say, how has God gifted me, and how can I use that gift...
Maybe it is hospitality to invite that newcomer into your home,
Encouragement to take that sister or brother out who is discouraged and speak words of life into their hearts
Organization to help plan out various functions and roles
We all can be used in the gifts of the Spirit - praying for healing, miracles, allowing a word to be spoken through us as we pray for individuals...
The contemporary church flocks to hear an evangelist to receive the ministry of gifts into their lives, when an evangelist true ministry is to proclaim the Word for salvation to be released...
It is the body of Christ role to allow those gifts to flow through them...
Wouldn’t that be more apt to happen if we allow the Baptism and fullness of the Spirit to be released into our lives so Jesus can use us!!!????
Lord, RELEASE YOUR POWER in my life by your HOLY SPIRIT so I might be used in your gifts not only to the body, but to the lost!!!!

CONCLUSION

The Holy Spirit wants to EMPOWER HIS CHURCH
To RELEASE righteous living
To RELEASE COMPASSION to REACH THE LOST
To RELEASE power in ministry and prayer to one another
I believe that starts when we allow the HOLY SPIRIT to be RELEASED IN OUR LIVES through the BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Acts 2:4 NLT
And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
This is the initial release into our lives....
Once you experience this it is meant to flow in your life ...
If you have not experienced it --- you need it for PERSONAL REVIVAL
If you have experienced it but ignored it - you need it afresh in your life!!!!
LORD RELEASE YOUR HOLY SPIRIT IN US!
