We are in week 7 of our exploring prayers that lead to personal revival!!!
1. I need a REVITALIZATION in my spirit man - the realization of our need for Christ in a greater way in our lives
2. I need to REPENT of secret sin, recompense where possible, and forgive others of sin committed against me.
3. I need a RESTORATION of my love for God’s Word.
4. I need a RELEASE of your Holy Spirit and power in my life.
5. I need to RETURN to my first my love - Jesus, and love my family.
6. I need a REMEMBRANCE and thanksgiving for all Christ has done for me!!!! .
I need a REMEMBRANCE and thanksgiving for all Christ has done for me!!!! .
I need a RESHAPING of my Praise and Worship so I can truly worship with my whole heart, body and with my life!!!!
Psalm 100 NLT
A psalm of thanksgiving. Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
I want to talk about our praise today.
Through the years people have come up with every excuse in the book why they do not have to participate in praise.
I don’t feel like it
That is not my culture
I am a quiet person
I cannot sing
I am too tired
My body hurts if I clap, jump, kneel, raise my hands
ETC. ETC. ETC
But PRAISE is becoming of the Christian!!!
It is a humbling of ourselves while lifting God up - it is not for our benefit, comfort, or pleasure - it is for God’s benefit, comfort and pleasure!!!!
However, when we learn to praise, when we grow in praise, when we allow the Spirit of God to shape our praise - it draws us closer to God.
James 4:8 NLT
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
Hmmmm, when we draw close to God through our praise and worship - HE draws close to us!!!
James goes on to say, purify your hearts and stop dividing your loyalty
Loyalty to what --- OUR PRIDE, OUR FEELINGS, OUR EASE & COMFORT?
I have heard many praise loud but not live out their life as an offering to God, and I have seen others live out their lives but never offer Him the fruit of their lips giving praise...
God is pleased with BOTH!!!
When we allow God to INHABIT our praise --- HIS PRESENCE GROWS STRONGER IN OUR SPIRIT!!!
The Word praise occurs in Scripture 307 times --- that tells us that praise matters to God!
He places emphasis and importance and VALUE on PRAISE!
This word “praise” is NOT including when we are encouraged to
Shout to God
Clap to God
kneel before God
call out to God
dance before God
lift up Holy hands to the Lord
All these being expressions of praise and worship to the Lord

1. Seven Ways to Praise

The Hebrews (Jewish people) had seven different words that expressed 7 different ways to praise the Lord.
How many are aware that if God has so much variety for bringing Him praise, than He may be encouraging us to LIFT HIM UP!
Towdah
This was the sacrifice of praise. Regardless of what is going on in your world - we can bring this praise to God.
It is not praise that comes freely .... we all like that easy praise. This is the praise that costs you something!!!
Praise that you have to choose to offer to the Lord that goes beyond your feelings and ease.
Praise that is often offered in the difficult times when nothing inside of us says to do it!!!
Isaiah 61:3 NLT
To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness… (KJV)
You have to PUT A GARMENT ON… and take off the HEAVINESS
Hebrews 13:15 NLT
Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.
2. YAWDAH
This means to lift your hands in praise of thanksgiving and confess to OTHERS what GOD has been up to!!!
In another words - raise your hands and brag about God’s work in your life!!!!
Psalm 118:28–29 NLT
You are my God, and I will praise you! You are my God, and I will exalt you! Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
Psalm 138:1–3 NLT
I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods. I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength.
What has God been doing for you --- LIft your hands and thank Him and remind Him that you know!!!
3. Barak
To bow under God’s awesome presence, to bow in awe
Psalm 95:6 NLT
Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker,
4. Zamar
To sing, make music, play instruments of praise
All of us have instruments (OUR HANDS, OUR VOICES)
This is praise that is not just spoken, but that which comes from song and music that honors God and calls forth His greatness
Psalm 68:4 NLT
Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the Lord rejoice in his presence!
Psalm 92:1 NLT
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High.
5. SHABACH
TO BOAST, RAVE, TRIUMPH in GOD, to GLORY IN , SHOUT and TESTIFY
This is praise that is making a scene to make HIS GREAT ACTS KNOWN TO ALL!!!!
Psalm 63:3 NLT
Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!
Psalm 145:4 NLT
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.
PS 154.
6. Halal
Be mad, foolish, rage, commend ---
This kind of praise is UNDIGNIFIED --- maybe we ought to get a little undignified!!!!
It involves clapping, jumping, dancing
It is praise that engages the whole body in expression of love and admiration of the Lord.
Psalm 148 NLT
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven! Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Praise him, skies above! Praise him, vapors high above the clouds! Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for he issued his command, and they came into being. He set them in place forever and ever. His decree will never be revoked. Praise the Lord from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, fire and hail, snow and clouds, wind and weather that obey him, mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all livestock, small scurrying animals and birds, kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth, young men and young women, old men and children. Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heaven! He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful ones— the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the Lord!
Psalm 150 NLT
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!
7. Tehillah
These are hymns of praise declaring God’s attributes
Tehillah actually was considered the highest forms of praise and encompassed all the other 6 forms of praise at the same time!!!!
(ya all know a hymn does not refer to a song from a song book with an older style tune.... a hymn is a song that declares God’s greatness and attributes)
Psalm 33:1 NLT
Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord; it is fitting for the pure to praise him.
WOW --- it is fitting for the pure (those made righteous) to TEHILLAH, PRAISE HIM IN ALL MANNERS!!!
Psalm 22:3 NLT
Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
God lives in the TEHILLAH of Israel - or his people....
God’s presence comes and dwells there...
----------------
We may think to offer such exuberant praise would be embarrassing, but HE DESIRES IT OF HIS PEOPLE --
If we are not experiencing God’s presence, maybe we are withholding HIS TEHILLAH!!!
The art of praising God is all encompassing of who we are. We engage our whole body, being, mind, spirit to declare HIS GREATNESS.
Sometimes our body has to help our head get into gear
OR
Our head has to tell our body to begin to praise so our spirit man would become engaged
When the head and body begin to engage the spirit, praise becomes WORSHIP and transcends into the heavenlies --- we become lifted out of this realm and into HIS PRESENCE
Many people praise but never enter to that place of worship where the spirit man is connecting with God!
There are many different ways we are encouraged to praise:
Kneel, sit, stand, lift our hands, wave, dance, sacrifice, bow --- which means there are many ways for us to GROW in our expression to the Lord.
Yes, we may have a favorite “format”, but that does not mean we get to ignore the other means of expressing our admiration and love to God.

2. Grow in Praise

The key is to not settle for the status quo!
God wants us to CHOOSE to worship and praise Him,
To CHOOSE to engage our body, mind and spirit in praise and to
GROW in that demonstration of praise to Him!
THe prayer said: LORD RESHAPE MY PRAISE
Let us not become stagnate in our praise to God.
Let me tell you, TRUE PRAISE is not dependent on the quality of music, the style of music, or the quiet or loudness of music...
People use these things as an excuse why they cannot praise --- we should be able to praise with an off tune voice singing a hymn, or a screeching voice screaming a modern tune
It is not the music that becomes stale or different, but our hearts that do...
Praise is about HIM, not us!!!
Ps 145.
Psalm 145:10 NLT
All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you.
It is not optional - as SAINTS OF GOD we are called to praise the Lord!
Ephesians 5:19 NLT
singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.

3. Our Life is a Praise to God

Romans 12:1–2 NLT
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Our lives are to be a sacrifice offered to the Lord,
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
SHOW FORTH THE PRAISES - the KJV states...
In other words, it is not just our words that Praise the Lord, but our lives and how we live also become a way in which we praise the Lord...
Not one or the other, but BOTH!
Our lives become a sacrifice that is pleasing to Him, so when you obey and follow the Lord you become a sacrifice that is well pleasing to HIM
A testimony that declares His greatness and and testifies to His character
Do our lives praise Him and testify of Him?? If not, what do they praise and testify of????

Conclusion

The Lord desires our praise --- in many different ways, including in how we live.
The Lord wants us to grow in our praise toward Him, and not limit ourselves to just one or two ways, but to allow our spirit to grab hold of all the expressions of praise found in His Word!!!
When we engage praise in our lives, the Lord’s presence comes and dwells there --- reviving our spirit man and helping us to commune with Him.
Do not neglect the PRAISE HE IS DUE!!!! Make this prayer to have your prayer reshaped a part of your calling on God to REVIVE YOU!!!
