The Information Age

Globally a staggering 269 billion emails are sent each day and there are currently just over 3.7 billion email users worldwide.
The findings revealed in Radicati Group’s February 2017 study, mark a continual growth in the number of emails sent per day; from 2015’s figure of 205 billion emails. For scale, if 205 billion emails is the daily mail count, this means almost 2.4 million emails are sent every second and a mind blowing 74 trillion emails per year.
With an annual growth rate of 4.4% forecast over the next four years, it’s estimated that by the end of 2021 over 316 billion emails will be sent each day and there will be 4.1 billion email users – that’s over half the entire world’s population.

On the Journey

One of the most difficult things in life is to know what you don’t know
Direction determines destination
Life is a series of mid-course corrections - see danger and avoid getting in trouble
(Ship on the rocks image)
Prudent take action to avoid dangerous circumstances
(Forks)
Our hearts often lie to us - Mind, will and emotions. Feels good do it! “My Heart Will Go On” Celine Dion
How do I get through this test in my life?

Solomon Says

Proverbs 15:22 ESV
Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.

Why We Don’t Seek Advice

1. We think we already know what we need to know. (Ignorance)
1. We think we already know what we need to know. (Ignorance)
2. It feels better to have people think we know where we’re going than to let them know we don’t have a clue. (Pride)
(Pascagoula Concrete Story)
3. It’s too much work to figure out how to get advice. (Laziness)

Why We Don’t Seek Advice From Wise Counselors

1. It’s easier to get advice from our friends.
2. It’s easier to follow the herd.
3. It’s easier to copy what our parents did.

Getting Good Counsel

Proverbs 1:5 NIV
let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—
Knowing that you will always need good counsel
Ask more than one person’s advice
Positive mature people can give good counsel
Counsel must be grounded on God’s Word, not what you want to hear
Proverbs 11:14 NIV
For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
Proverbs 11:14
Many advisers make victory sure
3. Don’t let pride keep you from admitting what you don’t know
Proverbs 13:10 The Message
Arrogant know-it-alls stir up discord, but wise men and women listen to each other’s counsel.
Proverbs
Proverbs 12:15 The Message
Fools are headstrong and do what they like; wise people take advice.
See what he’s saying? “The way” of a fool. Another way to say that would be, “The Path” of a fool seems right to him.
So a friend comes and says, “I’m worried about the direction you’re headed.”
And the fool says, “You don’t need to worry about me.”
What does the wise man say when a friend says, “I’m worried about you?”
He says, “Really? I’m so grateful you care. Tell me what you’re seeing.”
A dad comes to his son and says, “I’m worried about some of the habits you’re developing.”
- The foolish son says, “Leave me, alone, Dad.”
- The wise son says, “Tell me what you’re seeing.”
A mom comes to her daughter and says, “Honey, I think your behavior could get you into trouble someday.”
- The foolish daughter says, “Mom, you are so old-fashioned.”
- The wise daughter says, “Tell me what you’re seeing.”
A supervisor comes to an employee and says, “I know this is none of my business, but can I give you some advice?”
A supervisor comes to an employee and says, “I know this is none of my business, but can I give you some advice?”
- The foolish employee says, “If it’s none of your business, then mind your own business.”
- The wise employee says, “I need all the advice and counsel I can get.”
The Bible’s most gripping example of this is the story of a young king named Rehoboam. His story is found in .
4. Take counsel from those who have been where you want to go.

The Ultimate Source

John 14:6 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:
John 14:12–14 NASB95PARA
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
John 14:15–17 NLT
“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
John 14:26–27 NIV
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
