Evangelism on My Mind

  2 Continue earnestly in prayer,

being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;

3 meanwhile praying also for us,

that God would open to us a door for the word,

to speak the mystery of Christ,

for which I am also in chains, 4

that I may make it manifest,

as I ought to speak.

5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside,

redeeming the time.

6 Let your speech always be with grace,

seasoned with salt,

that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

M.O.I. – Christian Evangelism

C.I.T. – Paul taught the Colossians the things necessary for the spread of the Gospel.

Thesis – The church has an obligation to continue spreading the Gospel.  We need to know more than a program for doing so.

Proposition – I want the church to understand that evangelism is a life-style issue and not just memorizing some Bible verses.

Probing Question – What does this passage teach that we as Christians should do so that our life style will be conducive to leading others to Jesus?

Unifying Word – Choices

Transitional Sentence – Sometimes Christians fail to witness because they do not have the latest witnessing program memorized.  They should realize that the most important way of witnessing is by our life style.  In this passage we will see three choices we should make that will increase our viability as witnesses.

I.  We should pray for evangelistic opportunities.  Vs. 2,3

II.  We should watch for evangelistic opportunities.  Vs. 4

III.  We should speak in such a way as to evangelize the person.  Vs. 5
