Who Are You Looking At?

Acts 3:11 ESV
While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s.
Peter has a crowd gathered together now.
Acts 3:12 ESV
And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk?
I read this and think of the healing services that men use to make a lot of money!
People actually fall for this and pay big money. Fools!
If people would only read Gods Word they would know such things arent from men.
Acts 3:13 ESV
The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him.
Isaiah 42:8 ESV
I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.
The people were amazed at Peter and John,
Look at what they have done… WOW!!!!
Peter and John were just two ordinary men, they didnt have such power.
But the people were wondering what kind of holliness caused God to give them such power?
Peter is pointing out Who the Source of Power and Holines is from.
Peter points out that Power and Holines are not of men.
God does not work maricles for men to be glorified.
verse 12,
Acts 3:12 ESV
And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk?
why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk?
God had worked this maricle and God alone!
The power of holiness is of God’s Son, His servant, is Jesus. The Messiah.
God worked the maricle to glorifiy His Son. Its Jesus Power , Its Jesus holiness, Person and worh that are to be glorified and Him only!

Acts 3:13–14 ESV
The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
Acts 3:15 ESV
and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.
No man is exempt from God’s Love. Just as no man is exempt from the death of His Son Jesus either.
Everyones sins are covered my God’s Love and His Sons death on the cross.
It was not only the people of this day that put Jesus up on the cross, it was every man who has ever lived that put Him on the cross to die.
This was the point of His death,
To die for mans sins.
Jesus died for every man’s sins.
It was every man’s sin that necessitated His death.
These people had denied Jesus, even when He was innocent.
Jesus was innocent of the crimes for which He had been charged. Even the Roman Govenor, Pilate recognized this.
Luke 24:2–4 ESV
And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.
Luke 23:2–4 ESV
And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.” And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”
Luke 23:13–16 ESV
Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. I will therefore punish and release him.”
There was no charge against Him that was justified.
Jesus was rejected and condemned because men did not like His Claims.
He claimed to be the Son of God!
He claimed that men had to deny self completely, to give God everything, all they were and had.
If they wished to live eternally, they had to surrender and give all.
Very few people are going to give everything to God.
Men deny Jesus, the Holy One, the Righteous one.
Isa
Isaiah 53:11 ESV
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.
Men desired a sinner, a murderer, even before God’s Servant
vs 14, You denied the Holy One, The Righteous One.
You asked for a murderer to be granted to you.
People have to get rid of Jesus or either surrender to His Claims.
Most people won’t give up their possessions or themselves.
Thus they desire to get rid of Him.... even when He is innocent.
Moderen day people, oh they just want Him to save them, to usher them to heaven when they die, to rescue them in their time of need.
But to deny themselves. Are you kidding!
This is where the term riding the fence post comes from.
They would rather accept the worlds way, to fit in.
Example… Their are things that people wont dare say or do in the presence of people in church.
But let them get home, or at work.
People would never dare to print some things from the internet and bring to church and share.
But away from church they share the fool out of it with their friends!
They wont dare talk a certan way in church, but let them get out of church!
Every person who rejects Jesus is choosing sinful men and their ways over a sinless Son of God and His ways.
The unbeliver chooses sin over holiness.
unrighteousness over righteousness.
sinful and murdering men over the Holy and Loving One.
corruption over uncorruption.
death over life.
the short version...
People desire sinful people and their ways over the Son of God and His ways.
Why?
Because sinful men allow people to walk and to do as they wish and the Son of God calls on eto deny self and to follow Him
Acts 3:15 ESV
and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.
The author of life. your life. my life, my childrens lives.
The creator of life, the giver of life, the sustainer of Life.
This is the one who we kill when we deny Him.
Oh but death could not hold Him. He arose from the grave. He was Rasied from the grave! Peter says they were witnesses of this!
Acts 3:16 ESV
And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.
Power in the Name of Jesus!
Matthew 9:6 ESV
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Rise, pick up your bed and go home.”
Matthew 28:18 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Luke 8:25 ESV
He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”
John 17:12 ESV
While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
Acts 10:28 ESV
And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.
It was the power in the Name of Jesus, it was the Faith in the name of Jesus that made this man well!
John 14:13 ESV
Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
It is the faith in Jesus name that makes a person well.
God is not going to work through a person that dosent beleive in the Name of Jesus
God isnt going to work in a person who needs help if that person dosent beleive in the name of Jesus.
God isnt going to help anyone who dosent beleive in the nam eof Jesus, who dosent trust Him to help them.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Heb 11
Matthew 8:13 ESV
And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.
Ephesians 2:8–9 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Acts 3:17–18 ESV
“And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled.
The people did not know what they were doing when they killed Jesus, though the prophets fortold of this of the coming Mesiah. They should have known.
They had killed the Son of God in rebellion against God!
They had refused to study the scriptures, they had refused to hear the scriptures and not accepting them for what they said!
John 5:39 ESV
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,
We know that God is all powerful!
We know He is all present.
We know that He is all Knowing.
He is the giver and sustainer of life.
Did you know that their is one thing God cant do?
Their is something He can not do. He chooses to not be able to do something.
Acts 3:19 ESV
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,
This is my fav part in .
Repent.
To change ones mind that yields changing ones direction.
Change your minds as to who Jesus is, make a 180 turn. Deny self and follow Him!
And for the ones who do this...
your sins will be blotted out!
Blotted: - Exaleipho, to wipe off, to wipe away. To cause something to cease by obliterating any evidence.
Psalm 103:12 ESV
as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Ps
Hebrews 8:12 ESV
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Cor 5
Isaiah 43:25 ESV
“I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.
Romans 8:1 ESV
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Repentance is is an absolute essential for forgiveness!
A person cannot continue doing the same old things and expect forgiveness. They must turn to Jesus and away from their sin.
If a person is sincere they will repent.
Repentance is not a work, its the result of God working in you that turns us away from sin.
How does God work in us, by us denying self and following Him.
Remember, God is all knowing and all present. He knows a persons heart. It is He that does the work in you!
Ive talked with some wicked people, people who have broken every one of Gods commandents, and I mean all 10 of them.
and they have told me that the church could not help them,

why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk?

I agreed with them, but added that The power wasnt in the church, it was in Jesus!
No we see here in where Peter is pointing out to the people here that they are the ones responsible for the death of Jesus, yet he is also telling them that if they repent that their sins will be removed and the God will no longer remember them any longer.
I ask this question, Have you killed the Son of God? Our sins is what caused His death, but have you killed the Son of God?
Well no, well the killers were offered forgivness if they would put their faith and trust in Jesus.
And that their sins would be remembered no more. Removed, wiped away without evidence of them ever being any sin in their life.
No one on earth can make this offer to anyone!
For the ones who repented, their sins were blotted out, wiped away.
now what happens?
Acts 3:20 ESV
that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus,
times of refreshing will come.
I beleive this comes in seasons,
of refreshment and renewal
of grace and blessings
of rest and comfort.
of strength and commitment.
Notice where this refreshing comes from… The Lord and when you receice it you will know where it came from trust me. His presence will be so evident in your life it is undenible!
Acts 3:21 ESV
whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.
Where is Jesus right now? In Heaven, where at in heaven?
Acts 3:20–21 ESV
that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.
Acts 7:55–56 ESV
But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
Romans 8:34 ESV
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Jesus is in Heaven interceeding for us, for all who have repented!
God is the Judge over all judges, and we have the best defense that we can have! Jesus!!!
vs 21 makes refrence to Jesus being their untill the time for restoring all things about which God had spoken of through the phrophets.
Jesus will be at the right hand of God untill He returns for us!
Acts 1:9–10 ESV
And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes,
Acts 1:9 ESV
And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
Acts 1:9–11 ESV
And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16–18 ESV
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
1 Thes
John 14:2–3 ESV
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
Acts 3:22–24 ESV
Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days.
God predicted the coming judgement through the prophets.
vs 23,
Acts 3:23 ESV
And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’
who does not listen shall be destroyed.
this word destroyed dosent mean that a person will cease to exist, it means that a destroyed person will be devastated and condemned to a worthless existence. To suffer waste and loss for eternity,
we know this better as hell!
Matthew 25:46 ESV
And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Acts 3:25–26 ESV
You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.”
This is being spoken to the Jews, but...
This warning is to all people!
Jesus very first words spoken that we have recorded are these.
Matthew 3:2 ESV
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:17 ESV
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
