Last year at the Bank of America 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, Mark Martin was roaring out of the pit stop area; but he had his eyes locked on his rearview mirror, watching for cars bearing down on him. He was so focused on his mirror that he didn’t see J. J. Yeley in front of him. The two cars made contact, leading to a chain reaction that sent Martin’s ford into the wall at 170 miles an hour. Martin survived the crash, but instead of winning the race, he ended in 30th place.
