That little 9 X 20 ft. piece of real estate in the parking garage is getting more and more expensive. If you commute into downtown Chicago, your parking spot can cost an average of $332.00 per month. But that’s a bargain compared to midtown Manhattan where the average parking space goes for as much as $887.80 each month. It’s even worse in London’s West End where drivers pay $898.00 per month for a lowly spot for their BMWs.

The most expensive parking space in the world, however, is the one you and I occupy when we stop making forward progress in our lives. Parking has become a metaphor for people who just stop living. They settle into a comfortable spot, feel they’ve learned all they need to know, and aren’t willing to expend the energy to keep going and growing. They come to a complete stop, turn off the engine, and parallel park along life’s scenic route.
