Freedom
Intro into what you have been thinking about lately. How lately God has been dealing with me about the greater things in life. Talk about how God is showing me how to be free in every aspect of life and how God is going to be incorporated into everything you do. Treasure, power, greatness, freedom is available to us. So I'm just gonna take you on the same journey that God is taking me on if that's ok.
John 8:31–38 NKJV
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.”
When I was studying last night the Lord had me stop here for a while and wouldn't let me move on. Then after about 15 minutes, I saw it!
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.
32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”
34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.
35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.
36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
37 Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message.
38 I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father.
- I don't know if you caught the revelation in this scripture cuz I didn't at first but Jesus just said a mouthful.
-When I was studying last night the Lord had me stop here for a while and wouldn't let me move on. Then after about 15 minutes, I saw it!
- break it down for them
1 The FIRST thing Jesus does is OFFER THEM FREEDOM -Jesus was offering them a freedom unlike anything they had ever known. BUT I WANT YOU TO NOTICE THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT THEY WERE SLAVES!
1 It takes A REAL GOOD SALES JOB to convince someone that they are free when in fact they are operating in bondage!
-THEY LITERALLY ARGUED WITH JESUS because they so believed that they were free.
Read the rest of the chapter. The argument had gotten so heated that these people literally picked up stones and was about to stone Jesus! The bible says that when that happened Jesus made himself disappear and walked right through them and left the temple.
BUT HERE'S THE KICKER! When you go back and find out who Jesus was talking to, you find out that Jesus was talking to BELIEVERS! Read verse 31 again.
This shows me that it is possible to believe in Jesus and not believe what He says, BUT HERE'S A NEWSFLASH when you believe in Jesus but not what he says, YOU ARE NOT FREE (twice). I KNOW THIS GOES AGAINST SOME OF YOUR THEOLOGY BECAUSE IT WENT AGAINST MINE. CUZ IF YOU'RE LIKE ME SOMONE SOMEWHERE TOLD YOU THAT YOUVE BEEN MADE FREE BECAUSE OF WHAT JESUS DID ON THE CROSS AND ALTHOUGH THAT IS TRUE THAT IS NOT ALL THERE IS TO THAT STORY!Jesus said that it's the truth that is going to set you free, but you won't know the truth unless you remain faithful to His teachings, (slowly with dramatic emphasis eyes closed) but you won't remain faithful to His teachings unless you first believe that they are true, Because in your mind that would deem His teachings worthy of you being faithful to them. So youre not free.
-When the Lord showed this to me I said you're kidding
-Prove it-
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Jail cell analogy
-So you this should make you ask yourself, what types of bondage have I subjected myself to by not being believing to God's word?
2 Peter 1:3–4 NKJV
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Growing in Faith
3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us GREAT and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
-True freedom looks like the promises being fulfilled in our lives
-I mean, seriously guys, am I the only one who feels like there is more available to us than what we've experienced?
I believe we were made for greatness! I mean true greatness unlike this world has ever seen. Im Jesus status type stuff!
-church relation convo about flying. It's not even that big of a deal in the grand scheme of what Jesus did. Jesus said we will do GREATER WORKS than what He did because He went to the Father!
-What did Jesus do, disappear, walked on water, walked through mobs of people as they were trying to throw him off of a cliff, transfigured, healed all kinds of diseases, changed water into wine, fed thousands of people with a few fish and a couple of biscuits! Everybody ate good that night! And the list goes on.
-I mean seriously, you can't tell me that when he said greater works he meant going up to a starving homeless person and telling them Jesus loves them. I mean that's great but it aint greater. Don't tell me that's greater. Jesus fed 5000 people and you talkin bout Jesus loves you. You better show them Jesus loves them.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Why?
He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one:
“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. 4 As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. 5 Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. 8 Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! 9 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”
-Explained-
“Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: 19 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. 20 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 21 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. 22 The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. 23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
Outro
-I'm not saying youre not going to heaven. I'm just saying you're leaving some of your change on the counter. You're driving off without grabbing all of your groceries
