Broken for the Broken

Paul seems to make a weird bunny trail in chapters 9-11. Paul goes from talking about victory in salvation and what we have in Christ to discussing the Jews and their salvation. Many people in Paul’s day, Jews and Gentiles alike, thought he abandoned his faith and his people. However, they also thought this of God. That if God loves his people, why would he forget the Jewish People and focus on us Gentiles. If you do a careful study of these chapters you will find nothing has really changed in the lives of the Jews. They, like us, still have a choice to make.
I have what some may call a blended family. I have natural born children and adopted children. A word of warning though—if you ask my wife which kids are hers she may, especially before the consumption of coffee, both literally and figuratively rip your head off. To both her and I they are all our children. We don’t treat one different than the other. One child doesn’t get the good food while we make the other child eat the dog food. They are all our children and they will all reap the benefits of carrying the Heuer name. When I die, any blessings that God has given me, that I couldn’t find a way to sow into the gospel will become my ALL of my children’s inheritance. There is a chance I could add more children, through adoption into my family and if God calls us to the adopted children may outnumber the biological children. Numbers, however don’t matter. If one of my natural born kids run away and write us out of their life that this is their choice to make and yes it may reflect on their future inheritance.
You maybe asking what this has to do with the bible, so lets quickly settle this before we get into having a heart for the lost.
Romans 9:6-
Romans 9:6–8 ESV
But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.
Paul is stating simply this:
Birth doesn’t=family.
Choice=Family.
Just because someone is born in the right blood lines doesn’t mean they have access to the inheritance. Just like we as Gentiles CAN be grafted into the family. or adopted into family doesn’t mean we WILL be adopted. It’s a choice on our part just as it is a choice on the part of the Jews. This is illustrated through the controversial verse of
Romans 9:13 ESV
As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
The word hated actually comes from the root word meaning REJECTED. Why did God accept Jacob and Reject Esau? It simply came down to blood line. God loved Esau and according to
Genesis 33:9 ESV
But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.”
God also blessed him. The choice was about where the linage of Christ would flow through. God doesn’t give credance to birth order. Many times he chose to use the second born child over the first and I believe this has everything to do with the words of Jesus.
Matthew 20:16 ESV
So the last will be first, and the first last.”
What does this mean for the Jews? They have a decision to make-Accept or Reject!
What does this mean for us? It means we are grafted into the family. This also means that all of the Old Testament promises God made to Israel can also be applied to us. This doesn’t mean you will get all of them, but it means that God wants to funnel through you the same blessings he funneled through Israel. Now here’s the key part.
What’s the most important part of the funnel?
The most important part of the funnel isn’t the receiving end. It’s the giving end. If the giving end stops giving than there receiving end will eventually run out of room to receive and in turn it’ll begin to dump the blessing of God in our lives. Some of our funnels have stopped producing because God is asking us to widen our giving end so he pour more into the receiving end.
Some of us have been begging God for more...
More of his presence
More of his grace
More of his mercy
More money
More spiritual gifts.
But what happens to our body when we try to take in more air without letting anything out? We fill to compacity. Then God put an idiot proof switch in our bodies that ensure we won’t accidently die from air consumption and we pass out. At that point we lose out ability to decide how much air we take in and how much air we let out. Our bodies seem to just take over. It says—you don’t know how to modulate your air—bypass the brain into survival mode and the body takes over.
God in all his knowledge and wisdom says—your funnel is full-If I pour more in you’ll drown to death so I will just shut down the system until you pass out and begin to let go again.
This is how you become as sincere as Paul was in Verse 3
Romans 9:3 ESV
For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.
I want to take a quick poll! How many of you love to suffer? It may surprise you but if you call yourself a Christian the last place you want to be is comfortable. The bible regards suffering as normal. In all actuality suffering is talked about more and with more positivity than blessing. If we aren’t suffering than one can say we aren’t Christians.
2 Corinthians 1:4 ESV
who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Philippians 1:29 ESV
For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake,
2 Corinthians
And this isn’t a- well people are talking bad about me. This is a My brothers, my family, as rejected me because I won’t stop talking about true salvation.
Luke 14:26 ESV
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
The term hate here doesn’t mean to despire or wish ill. Rather it means to love less just as we learned with Esau. It means if we aren’t willing to risk our relationship with them to preach the gospel to them than we have idols in our life. We love them more than we love Christ.
I have heard these verses many times at super-spiritual prayer services, but you can’t fake this kind of heart.
I prophesied over this church that these seats are going to be filled by our loved ones who are lost and dying in the world, but how do we fill these seats? How many can honestly say Lord let me go to the bowels of hell if it means the salvation of our family.
Jesus did it. He went into the bowels of hell to take over the keys of death and turn it into the foundation of life.
But Pastor we can’t do that? We are’t Jesus! You right, but don’t complain that God isn’t moving in your family if he isn’t moving in your life to the point your willing to skip meals and push into the presence of God for them. We state all the time we will storm the gates of hell when many of us won’t even wonder into the thrown room of heaven.
Paul had a passion for the lost and until we receive that passion things are going to stay the same they always have.
Look at Verse 2
Romans 9:2 ESV
that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
This type of anguish and burden begs for movement.
2 Corinthians 11:23–29 ESV
Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one—I am talking like a madman—with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death. Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea; on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers; in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant?
Paul backed up his anguish with action. For all intents and purposes he went into the bowels of hell and began dragging souls back into heaven.
Paul is passionate and he states you may think of me as a mad man, but listen
If you aren’t more passionate than your enemy for the victory you are searching for than your enemy will win the majority of the battles that are fought.
Satan is many negative things, but man is he passionate for his cause.
Isaiah 14:12–14 ESV
“How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’
This is Satan’s passion credo.
Stars int he bible are likened to angels. He wants to ascend above all angels. Where he will set his throne. The mount of the assembly. In the bible the highest mountain is likened to the center of heaven—The Throne room of God.
Listen to this Arrogant passion Satan has to over throw God. He doesn’t just want to become like him he wants to be worshiped by him. This is why Satan works so hard to build his kingdom. Because he wants to build a greater kingdom than the kingdom of God.
You cannot win a war your are not passionate about.
Satan is driven day in and day out to forcefully pull your loved ones—even yourself---into his kingdom of darkness. We must be atleast that driven to pull them back out.
We read last week we that we
MORE THAN CONQUERERS!
But do you know what a conquerer is when it’s left on a the couch for too long—a couch potato. Potatos love fire. They love to be devoured with dripping butter and mounds of sour-creme and bacon bits.
Don’t be a baked potato
waiting to be devoured.
Walk with your God given authority. Command mountains to move. Command the dead to be raised. Scream into the deepest darkest souls in your family tree: Lazarus Come fourth. And expect the corpse to walk into life. You are not a baked potato. You are a child of the living God. Flash you authority.
Declaire in the name and power of Jesus you will not take my family into the pit of despair because I will hit despairs bottom to pull them back out.
Amen? Stand up! Declair this morning your victory. Declaire your authority.
Stand with Twisted Sister and declair We’re not going take it.
We aren’t going to take our loved ones dying. We aren’t going to take desparity. We aren’t going to take financial ruin. We aren’t going to take joblessness. WE are going to passionately persue what God has for us and be prosperous and victorious and we are going to take our family with us.
Amen? Lets Go!
